The congregation of the Spruce Street church welcomed Rev. Richard Kwiatkowski Sunday, Oct. 30 in an installation service during the afternoon. He, his husband and their two teenage foster children moved from Toronto to Oakville in early September for the job, which officially began Sept. 15. Kwiatkowski, who is originally from Western New York, says he's looking forward to being part of the community and start making inroads on where he and the church can help meet the needs of the community. "It's almost like a homecoming for me in a sense that I grew up in the suburbs," Kwiatkowski told the Oakville Beaver. "Everyone always seems to say hi to you," he said, noting what a difference it is from living in Toronto where you're not often greeted by your neighbours. Kwiatkowski brings with him years of experience, having begun his studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1997. During that time, he served one year of field education at Faith Lutheran Church in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, a year of field work at Tabernacle Lutheran Church in West Philadelphia and an internship at Advent Lutheran Church in West Lawn, Pennsylvania before completing seminary in May 2001 with a Master of Divinity degree. He was the Pastor of Good Shepherd at Lutheran Church in North Boston, New York from 2002 to 2014 and also served as a part-time Chaplain for the Niagara Lutheran Health System in Western New York. Kwiatkowski then decided to go back to school to complete a Master of Theology at Trinity College (University of Toronto), an affiliate of the Toronto School of Theology in 2008. He received his Master of Theology degree in May 2015. While in Toronto for his studies he met his husband, Charles Little, in October 2010.
