Gary Carr, Regional Chair Honouring the sacrifices of Canada's veterans On November 11 at 11 a.m., please join us in a moment of silence to honour the bravery, dedication and sacrifice of Canada's veterans. The many freedoms we enjoy here in Canada came at a great personal cost to the everyday heroes who risked and sacrificed their lives for the good of future generations. Remembrance Day is a time to honour those who courageously fought in wars and conflict zones across the globe to defend our rights and freedoms. Canada's veterans protected our country's foundational values of peace, liberty and hope, and those who continue to serve carry this legacy forward. Halton's vibrant communities owe their bright future to these courageous individuals. On behalf of Halton Region, I encourage residents to wear a poppy this November and honour the sacrifice of all those who braved war and conflict to preserve our future. Yard waste collection until December 9 The Region supports environmental sustainability, and we offer a wide range of waste management programs to help reduce waste. Until December 9, yard waste is collected once every other week on the same day as your garbage. Acceptable yard waste items include: leaves, garden trimmings, decorative corn stalks, fruit that's fallen from trees, Halloween pumpkins, sticks and twigs. On your scheduled yard waste collection day, please place items at the curb by 7 a.m. and no earlier than 5 p.m. the night before. To help put yard waste in its proper place, remember to use paper yard waste bags or open, reusable, rigid containers labelled "yard waste" when you put this material at the curb for collection. To ensure organic waste placed in your Green Cart can be properly processed, please only use certified compostable bags with the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) logo. You can also line your Green Cart with paper towels or newspapers.
