This milestone celebration signifies the culmination of collaborative work between Halton Healthcare, the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program and Cancer Care Ontario. It also acknowledged Betty Birmingham and her late husband, Bruce Birmingham, strong financial supporters of both the Hospital and cancer care services, and for whom the clinic is named. The Central Intake Program was recently recognized by the Mississauga Halton LHIN with a Partnering for a Healthy Community award for "Creating Simplified and Equitable Access to Diabetes Care". Today the Program has expanded its scope of services and receives, triages, and directs referrals to regional healthcare providers for diabetes care, mental health services and foot care. Mammothon On October 20, 2016 Halton Healthcare, in partnership with the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program, hosted Mammothon, a free breast screening event at all three of its hospitals. Women between the ages of 50 and 74 who had not had a mammogram in the last two years were encouraged to register for a free breast screening at the Georgetown Hospital, the Milton District Hospital or the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, with no doctor's referral required. "In Ontario, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, affecting one in nine women in their lifetime and the risk of developing breast cancer increases with age," explains Dr. Jillian Feberwee, Lead Radiologist for Women's Imaging at Halton Healthcare. "Many women avoid or delay their regular mammogram - the very test that could help save their life." Looking for information on healthcare in Ontario?
