School consolidation in northeast by Kathy Yanchus Metroland West Media The Halton Catholic District School Board is going to roll up its sleeves for an accommodation review in northeast Oakville. Trustees approved a northeast Oakville Pupil Accommodation Review (PAR) Oct. 4. Two options for consolidation are offered in the PAR report presented to trustees. Both recommend closure of Holy Family and St. John schools and building a new northeast-area school on the current St. Michael school site. The board's preferred option in dealing with declining enrolment would see St. John students living below Upper Middle Road attend the new 550-pupil elementary school to be built on the existing St. Michael Sewell Drive site for the 2018/2019 school year, and those living above UMR re-directed to Our Lady of Peace School on River Glen Blvd. Our Lady of Peace would be the location of the Essential Skills Classroom program. This option would also introduce the Extended French program at the proposed new Oakville northeast Catholic elementary school, and re-locate the Structured Teaching Classroom program there from St. John. All St. Michael school students would be temporarily relocated to St. John on Mansfield Drive until the new facility is complete, while Holy Family students would remain at their school on Grosvenor Street until then. Holy Family and St. John would then be closed.
