May was born to Robert and Ina Pirie on April 28, 1922, in Glasgow, Scotland, younger sister to brothers Robin and Ian. May was awarded for her academic achievements throughout her schooling and was a talented painter as well. She entered the British Army at the age of 19 and became a radar plotter on the south coast of England as part of the famous Watson Watts' radar defense team. May and Jim were married on September 6, 1945 before she emigrated to Canada to begin a family that totalled 9 children; 6 boys and 3 girls. In addition to raising her family, May earned a degree in Criminal Psychology while working at Vanier Reformatory for Women. She spent the last 10 years of her working life as a Special Needs Counsellor at Canada Employment Services, retiring in 1987. May spent her retirement years enjoying her extended family, reading, doing crosswords puzzles, travelling and gardening on her balcony overlooking Lake Ontario. She enjoyed drives in the country, shopping and good conversation. May is survived by her children Chris (Joan Skrins), Jill (Don Ross), Wendy, Susan (Mel Magalas), Kevin (Cheryl), and Greg, in addition to many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. May is predeceased by husband James and sons Timothy, Michael, and Peter (Maureen). A very special thank you to the loving staff at St. Lawrence Lodge who took care of May for the final 2 years of her life as dementia took hold. May's funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22nd at 1:30 PM at Ward Funeral Home, Oakville Chapel, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, preceded by a visitation from 11:30 to 12:30. KAZARIAN, Peter (July 21, 1942 - October 16 2016) It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to a loving husband, much loved father, cherished son, dear brother, special uncle and beloved Papa. At the youthful age of 74, Peter Kazarian passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 10 years Elaine (nee, Ross) by his side. Peter will be deeply missed by his sons Robert and Michael (Andrea), daughters Kelly, and Penny-Jayne (Mike), and their mother Nancy Kazarian. Along with his beloved grandchildren, Madison, Sydney, Spencer and Oakley. He is survived by his sister Margaret Sopko of Brantford (the late Steve), predeceased by his parents Samuel (Sooren) and Rose (Hajganoosh) Kazarian of Brantford, and brother Jack Kazarian of West Virginia. Peter was an avid golfer and sports fan. He loved a good game of cards with friends and was a bit of a pool shark in his day. Peter had the ability to make new friends at every corner and always made a lasting impression. Since Peter's initial diagnosis in 2012, he fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. To all who knew and loved him it was nothing short of extraordinary that he was able to accomplish the many things that he did. The endless amount of strength, hope and positive energy that Peter possessed can be attributed to the fact that he loved and thoroughly enjoyed his life and was thankful for every moment. Great thanks go out to all of the staff, nurses and doctors at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton. Along with the VON nursing staff of Brantford and the personal support workers for all of their support and care while Peter was at home. She was the soulmate and beloved wife of the late Frank (2013) for 61 years. Born in Hamilton, Ontario and a long-time resident of Oakville, Nancy is survived by her husband, John; sons Kim, Christian, and David; and grandchildren Michael, Katie, Mackenzie, Sam, Cael, Tyler, Jessie, Rachael, and Lauren. Nancy was a graduate of Westdale Collegiate in Hamilton, McMaster University (B.A.), and Brock University (M.Ed.). Family was the most important part of Nancy's life. She often talked about roots and wings: the importance of building strong roots in order to truly flourish. She stood on principle and integrity as the basis for a meaningful life. She was inspiring, independent, intelligent, athletic, young at heart, and possessed a wonderful sense of humour. Beyond having the love, admiration and respect of her family, Nancy touched many lives on so many different levels. She was an outstanding teacher at Brookdale Public School and Sheridan College; a cherished friend and companion; and she placed tremendous value on community. In this latter capacity, Nancy volunteered at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for 18 years, as well as Sir John Colborne Senior Centre for 10. Nancy consistently placed the needs and interests of others before herself.
