www.insideHALTON.com |OAKVILLE BEAVER |Friday, October 7, 2016 |22 Oakville comic Glen Foster launches comedy series Oakville comedian Glen Foster's aver sion to driving into Toronto is a big win for Burlington. The longtime comic, aka That Cana dian Guy, has set his sights on a local venue where he can drop in and put new material to the test. But his Bullhorn Comedy evenings, which kicked off Sept. 23, are about more than a convenient commute for the Oakvillian. Friday nights, The Black Bull's ban quet hall will morph into a comedy club, offering a platform for amateur come dians, and a professional special guest comic each week. Foster will not be a regular Friday feature, but he'll drop in whenever he's available; in the meantime, he's set in motion an opportunity for area comics to perform and GTA West residents easy access to a comedy club. "My main motivation for doing these shows is to have a local comedy room where I can go when 1 want to work out new material, without having to drive into Toronto," said Foster, who has per formed stand-up for more than 30 years, as well as appeared on numerous TV shows, hosted his own comedy specials and released three CDs. By helping himself though, he'll also provide exposure for Burlington, and wants to go on, I am sure we will be able to accommodate them. Right now, we've got one solid professional guest on every show and the rest is just a mix of amateurs, up and comers, and pros if they need to drop by and work some stuff out." There were a few Bullhorn Comedy shows in the spring. The house emcee is Foster's friend and headliner Lawrence Morgenstern, who has performed at major comedy clubs and festivals across Canada and the U.S. and has written material for, among many others, Andre Philippe Gagnon and Mike Bullard. "He (Morgenstern) is great with crowd work and off the cuff remarks; very fun ny and lightning fast. I am really happy to have him involved with this project." Originally, Foster's concept also in cluded an invitation for audience mem bers to rant on stage about a subject of their choice. "It seemed to gravitate towards com edy, but we're still open to the idea." There is no judging component to the evening; it's ju st a night of comedy. Cov er charge is $5. "It will be a nice mix of professional and amateur," added Foster. The Black Bull is at 1124 Guelph Line in Burlington.
