In the first game they came up short losing 5-4. Tyler Hutchison played, well in net. Connor Whitley scored all the goals with assists to Chris Third and Jarrctt Lane (2). The next game was against rivals Orono #2. The team was out-played coming out of the match losing 7-3. Ben deBoer and Whitley (2) scored the goals. Orono finally got back into the win column with impressive wins. Charlie Reid's Royal LePage Realty came out on top winning the game 2-1 in the last period of the game. Orono has put together two well-balanced and evenly divided teams at this level. Heather Maitland, assisted by Brien Konopka, poked in the sole Village Bakery team goal. On January 13 Orono Village Bakery met Ontario Power Generation at the Courtice rink. Orono opened the scoring scoring four minutes into the second period with Heather Maitland's goal poked in at the front of the net. Blair McKenzie and Doug Deboo assisted. The opposition opposition came back quickly scoring from the next face-off. Before the end of the period Orono serged ahead as Mark Spiers set up Andrew Fudge with a beautiful pass. Andrew pocketed it in the corner. In the middle of the third Brien Konopka , from behind the net, passed over to Mark Spiers. Spiers, unable to get a clear shot, delivered it to Josh Flynn in front of the net. Josh Flynn, debuting at a forward position, hammered hammered in Orono's third goal of the night. -by S.K. Toros wring win from Major Plumbing the strong goaltending of Chris Austin and defense of Elizabeth Jackson, Trevor Butt-Middleton, Dylan Armstrong and Daniel Owens, the team beat OPG 5-2. Goals were scored by deBoer (3) and Whitley (2) with assists to Third (2) and Jack Kingston. The next game was very lopsided with Orono coming out on top 15-3. Goals were scored by deBoer (6), Whitley (6), Tyler Trimble, Lane and Cooper Phillips. Best wishes to Ryan Armstrong for a speedy recovery from a broken wrist. On January 22, the Orono Major Plumbing Novice Reps played the Clarington Toro "A" Novices in an exhigition game. In regulation time, Orono came out ahead of the Toros, 2-1. Time allowed an extra five minutes of play, in which the Toros tied the game. Matt Verkuyl and Ryan Walton scored Orono's goals unassisted. The next night, Orono finished their first round playoff series against Fenelon Falls winning the series in 3 games. Orono came out ahead 14-0, 9- 1 and 8-3. Goal-scorers were Patrick McKay (8),Dylan Dennis (6), Ryan Walton (5), Chris Haas (5), Josh Gallina (3), Matt Verkuyl (2) andAPs Connor Whitely (1) and Ben Deboer (1). Assists went to Chris Haas (6), Josh Gallina (6), Patrick McKay (6), Matt Verkuyl (5), Warren Ball (3), Ben Deboer (3), Ryan Walton (3), Dylan Dennis (2) and Mitch Marchbank (1). Playing well defensively were Jennifer Mercer, Ian Third and goal- tender Josh Kelly, who added another shutout to his record. The first week of February, the team will start their best of 7 series against rival Newcastle Stars on what should be a great series. Orono played a strong defensive game and assisted Alex Bortolazzo, who played a great game in goal, in keeping the opponents goals to a minimum and narrowly missing missing a shut-out for himself. The next game for the Orono Polymer Extrusions Major Tyke Team is on Friday January 30th at 6:00pm at the Courtice Arena.
