c Peewee Reps "A" champs in tourney The Orono Peewee rep team sponsored by Newcastle Funeral Home competed in their second tournament of the year in Bobcaygeon over the weekend and came away with "A" Champs. In the first game against Baltimore the Leafs skated to a 4-1 win. Behind the solid goaltending goaltending of Sean Lowe and Patrick Rempel the game was never in doubt as the Leafs took control of the game early and never looked back. Lucas Martin, Jeremy Caruana, Matt Field and Spencer Cole scored for Orono. In game two the Orono crew faced off against the host team and once again led form start to finish earning a 3-2. Spencer Cole, Matt Field and Tyler Middleton each potted goals and Sean Lowe once again made key stops down the stretch to preserve the win. The final game was against Prince Edward County and the Leafs darted out with quick goals and played very good hockey the rest of the way to capture the Championship. Matt Field, Greg St. James, Spencer Cole and Carson Quinn scored for Orono while Lucas Martin picked up MVP honors in the final game. This was a very impressive win as the team had contribution from everyone starting with great goaltending, solid defense and forwards chipping in with big goals and crucial times. by IS. Village Bake Shop Comes Up 1 & 1 Orono Village Bake Shop met Newcastle in an exhibition game on Saturday, November 22. This game was the final in a semi-full Orono bench, with the arrival of n&w players Tyler and Blair McKenzie. For the first time this year Orono outnumbered outnumbered the opposing bench. Orono opened the scoring in the first period with a pass from defensive player Colin Maitland to offensive player Mark Spiers. In the second period Mark Spiers popped a second goal in the Newcastle net unassisted. Garrett McDonald followed up in the third period with another unassisted unassisted goal. Orono Major Tykes Game Report The Orono Easton Truck Caps Major Tykes started the week with a loss but came back strong with 2 wins. Orono lost the first game 3-2 with the goals scored by Connor Whitley and an assist to Elizabeth Jackson. Strong goaltending by Dylan Armstrong also helped- to keep the score close. In the second game with a rash of sickness running through the team they still managed a 6-4 win. Goals with scored by Ben deBoer, Dylan Armstrong and Connor Whitley. Assists went to Christopher Third, Cooper Phillips and Tyler Trimble. Jarret Lane played a strong game between the pipes. In the final game the offence and defense both shone. Led by goaltender Ryan Armstrong and strong defense from Chris Austin and Jack Kingston Orono won 7-2. Tyler Hutchison led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists, Cooper Philips had 1 goal and 1 assist, Ben deBoer and Connor Whitley had 2 goals each.
