Eagles Pitchers Flying High Over the last few weeks the Brian Bickell of Orono was 1- Mark Foster was quick to Kendal Eagles have seen some great pitching performances from their entire pitching staff, rookies and veterans alike. On Sunday, July 26th, Kendal took on the Whitby Chiefs/Rookie right hander Russ 'Snuffy' Hunt pitched seven scoreless innings of relief. Hunt held the Chiefs hitless for the first five innings he threw, using his control and a knee buckling curve. Devon Witheridge made a highlight reel catch as he crashed into rightfield fence, to steal a sure double and keep Hunt's no hit streak alive. This steady defense and great pitching combined with a strong three hit performance by Brian Landry lead the Eagles to a 3- 2 victory. • • • The team's next outing was in Peterbourgh where wiley veteran Troy Foster got the start. His strong complete game effort was wasted as the Eagles had a rough evening in the field. Several key errors lead to five unearned runs and a 5-2 defeat. Junior call-up 2 in the game, driving a ball off the wall in right-center- field narrowly missing a homerun. The Eagles then started the Civic Holiday weekend with a game in Belleville. Orono home town hero Mike Landers took to the mound. Landers took a no-hitter into the 6th inning. Only to have it broken up with a one out duck snort just out of the grasp of the first baseman Jimmy Conboy. Steve Foster came on in relief of Landers in the seventh. He pitched two scoreless innings to preserve a 5-4 win, while recording his first save of the year. Leading the way offensively, offensively, David Trew doubled, walked and scored two runs in four trips to the plate; • • • With a record of 10-9 the club now heads into the final stretch of the season looking to finish stronger than they started. This year's main goal is once again the Ontario 'B' Championships in Courtright during the Labour Day long weekend. Veteran right hander point out that "One or two guys are going to have to step things up offensively..." if the Eagles are going to defend their Ontario 'B' Championship. If Kendal continues continues to receive quality pitching pitching and they can revive the offensive punch they've had over the past few years, these Eagles may again be flying high to finish this season. uth race Sat.
