A probable case includes suspect cases that progress to severe respiratory illness. Health Department continues continues local SARS investigation Durham Region residents who are concerned about SARS should consider the following: • Close contact with persons diagnosed with SARS; or • Recent travel to China's Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore; and • Developing a fever of over 38 degrees C and one or more respiratory symptoms including cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath. In addition to the Scarborough Hospital Grace Division investigation, York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill is now also a focus of the provincial surveillance. If you have no symptoms but have been to the Scarborough Hospital Grace Division within the last 10 days, please call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866- 797-0000. If you've been to York Central Hospital in the last 10 days but have no symptoms, please call York Region Public Health Unit at 1-800-361-5653. If you are a direct contact of a SARS case, or you're at home on isolation and have concerns. please call Durham Region Health Department at (905) 723-8521 or 1-800-841-2729. Health Department staff are available 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., seven days a week. In addition, if you have questions regarding Health Department programs and services that are now unavailable, please call (905) 723-8521 or 1-800-841- 2729 for further information on specific activities.
