MacArthur has the gift of music in that he sings, plays guitar and writes music, and would like to teach that others can make music also. Music students who want to learn to play often get bored with prescribed music lessons and quit after a few weeks because there is no immediate gratification. gratification. "Music is very accessible," said MacArthur in an interview last week. "When lessons are too formal, it's a turn off," he said. He's not interested in teaching theory, theory, he's interested in teaching teaching people to play. "A musical ear is developed by listening to music, something we all do," said MacArthur, who claims he was weaned on the Beatles. A steel worker by day and musician by night, MacArthur hopes eventually eventually to build a back yard stu dio at his Main Street home and move into music full time. The study included soils investigations, well drilling, pumping tests, well monitoring, stream flow measurements and computer modeling in order to delineate the Wellhead Protection Area. The Region of Durham presently operates two (2) municipal groundwater wells to service the Community of Orono. The objectives of the Wellhead Protection Area Study in the Community of Orono were: D 2) To define the geographic area contributing water to the municipal well (capture zone) and; Identify potential contaminant sources within the Wellhead Protection Area fo each municipal well. Groundwater protection is a vital.component of the establishment and operation of municipal groundwater supplies. Ideally, contamination should be prevented from occurring by using proactive groundwater protection programs such as a Wellhead Protection Program. The Region of Durham and its consultant, dagger Hims Limited, will host a Public Information Centre on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Centre in Orono, 124 Church Street, between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, to present the results of the groundwater protection study.
