The cost is Dr. Peter Jaffe, a well- known researcher and advocate in violence prevention and the effects of violence on youth, will speak at two events presented presented by the Peterborough Domestic Assault Review Team (DART) on April 28 and 29. Dr. Jaffe is the Founding Director of the Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System, a London, Ontario, children's mental health centre. He is also the Founding Chairperson of the London Coordinating Coordinating Committee to End Woman Abuse and was instrumental instrumental in the foundation of the Battered Women's Advocacy Clinic. Dr. Jaffe has co-authored eight books and more than 70 articles related to children, families families and the justice system. His expertise extends into the field of education as well. He serves as a trustee for the Thames Valley District School Board, and has received the Colonel Watson Award, presented annually annually by the Ontario Association for Curriculum Development, for his significant contribution to education in Ontario. On Thursday, April 28, Dr. Jafife will speak at an evening session titled Children in a Violent Culture: New Chal- , lenges for Youth, Parents, Educators and Community Services. The session is intended intended for parents, teachers, child care workers, mental health professionals and anyone con cerned about the impact of violence violence on children. Dr. Jaffe will review the impact of media, community and family violence on child and adolescent development. Creative strategies to engage youth, parents, educators and community partners to address these issues will be presented. The session is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. at the Lion's Centre on Burnham Street, Peterborough.. The cost is $10 or pay what you can. On Friday, April 29, Dr. Jaffe will be the keynote speaker speaker at the Children, Youth and Domestic Violence conference designed for professionals who work with children, youth and families. Dr. Jaffe will present current impacts of domestic violence (Whetung Theatre). The cost is on children and. youth, with $40 and includes lunch. He will also make recommendations on coordinating an effective community community response to the issue.
