Atom Reps an offensive force The Country Cafe Atom reps attended the Havelock Hawks Atom Rep Tournament on Saturday and came home "A" Champions. The team first met the Centre Hastings Grizzlies and dominated the game winning 7-1. They then played undefeated undefeated Grafton and won 3-1. In the championship game, they played the Otonobee Wolves. A very close game ensued, but Orono came out ahead 2-1 to win the tournament. A well deserving goal- tender Ben Hinchey won game MVP. Scoring goals were Dylan Dennis (3), Matt Verkuyl (2), Tyson Robinson (2) and singles to Michael Richards, Chris Haass, Mitch Marchbank, Zach Gibson and Tyler Meijer. Earning assists were Verkuyl (3), Gibson (3), Haass (3), Dennis (2), Warren Ball (2), Marchbank (1), Meijer (1), Patrick McKay (1 j and Josh Gallina (l). A skills competition took place at the tournament. Michael Richards won the stickhandling competition and Chris Haass won the speed skating competition. In regular season play during the last week Orono tied the Manvers Mustangs 4- f 4 and beat Bobcaygeon 10-0, Fenelon Falls 7-0 and Beaverton 3-1. Ben Hinchey earned both shutouts. Goals and assists were handed out as follows: Robinson (7g,4a), Verkuyl (5g,4a), McKay (3g,la), Gibson (2g,2a), Haass (2g,2a), Dennis (2g,2a), Ball (2g), Marchbank (lg,3a), Gallina (lg,3a) and Stefan Fabricius who scored his first goal of the season, also had an assist. Other assists went to Meijer(2), Jennifer Mercer(2), Ryan Walton and Ian Third. Robinson, Verkuyl and McKay all earned their first hat tricks of the regular season. season. The Country Cafe reps will be in Woodville Friday night and then attend the Rice Lake tournament on Saturday. Sunday, November November 21st saw the meeting of Orono Atom #2 against Ryan Realty Rangers of Bowmanville, Orono dominated the first period, playing a strong offensive offensive game. Braysan Smith was between the pipes and when • the Rangers broke through the Orono defense, Smith came up with the saves. Josh Canfield's game was on, scoring scoring four unassisted goals of the five goal win. In the first period, Canfield led the team with shots, on net but couldn't slip one by the Rangers goalie. The second period was a different different story, as Orono 2 was reward with three goals. Canfield opened the scoring scoring on a breakaway at the half way mark. Curtis Stainton's blistering shot from the blue line netted the second goal, assisted by Connor Mac- Varish. Orono took a commanding commanding lead with a third goal by Canfield with 35 seconds left in the second period. The Rangers came out in the third, determined not to go down without a fight. They scored two quick goals making making the Orono team edgy. The Rangers then tied it up, making making the score 3-3. After fighting fighting off a penalty, Canfield again scored unassisted. The great defensive line of Shane Battersby and Billy Qualtrough didn't allow any more Rangers through. Canfield nailed the door shut with his fourth goal at the two 11 mini minute mark, as the Orono atoms won their first game. Teddy Broome, Cody Hughes, Mitch Canfield, Josh Kelly all contributed to the win with their strong play.
