Grade two students Emily Osbourne, Mikayla Hartmann with departing teacher Ms. Hreljac. Weekly Times,'Wednesday, December 18,2002 - 9 J-- 1 -- Kirby grade twos say bye to Ms. Hreljac By Anita DeVries Tears were shéd at Kirby Public school's Monday morning Assembly as the school said good-bye to their grade two teacher Beth Hreljac. Hreljac was offered a job a few months ago at Manitoulin Island, teaching kindergarten. "I'm going to miss Kirby, but my family is there," said Hreljac. Principal Lisa Dunn made up a song for Hrelijac that the whole school sang, to the tune of "Bye Bye Love." "Ms. Hreljac always says, 'bye, bye'," said Dunn, in the morning assembly. "Everyone put your hand up and say 'bye, bye'." Hrelijac was put on 'the seat of honour', a wooden school chair, in front of the gym. The students sat in front of her, while the kids from grade 6 (her first class at Kirby) came up around her and sang: "Bye, bye Beth, Bye, bye Ms. Hreljac, Hello island life, I think we're gonna cry, Bye, bye our friend, good-bye." The verses in the song were hilarious, made especially especially for Hrelijac who is known for her kind heart and quick pace. The last verse said: "The island pace will slow her right down, Cause it's 50 miles to the nearest town! She'll go by dogsled Or in a canoe, and when she gets there, There'll be nothing to do." The grade two class is going to miss her. "I feel very sad that she's leaving, but I'm going to visit her when I go camping," said Aidan Conrad, one of her stu Willsher Continued from page 5 will happen next, but Willsher says, "Enjoy each day, and don't worry about tomorrow. Make as much of a contribution as you can." He is making progress everyday and the staff is dents. Another grade two student, student, Matthew Mercer said, "It's really sad but she said she would call us and send us letters." Hreljac herself has mixed emotions about leaving, "I've had a wonderful 5 years. This is a beautiful community, with wonderful students. I've grown professionally with the staff and they have always been very supportive. I will miss them terribly." amazed at how well his rehabilitation rehabilitation is coming. The "nightmarish pain" that he experienced weeks ago is under control now, and he says he feels 'great'. He smiles again and says, "The nursing staff here are wonderful, wonderful, they always have a smile." , •. t \; : J'\ *'a Wc.. /YEAR 4 •* + <4- A'YERy, Kitty <rj ïi Christmas was a simple affair, ^ A time-filled with friends, family and prayer.
