Newcastle Funeral Peewees improving The Peewees lost at home Friday night against Bobcaygeon and then on Sunday, they traveled north to Haliburton and were beaten 5- 3. Even though the Leafs lost, there was a big improvement in their game. The Leafs played a very defensive game against Bobcaygeon in the first period with nobody scoring for either team. In the second period, Jeremy Caruana scored 2 goals assisted by Jevon Staples. Chad Moore potted his first goal of the season season in the third period, assisted by Garrett Klompmaker. Bobcaygeon worked relentlessly, relentlessly, scoring 9 goals, beating the Orono Leafs 9 - 3.', In Sunday's game, the Peewees tame out flying as they were determined to give it their best shot against Highland Storm. Orono opened up with Matt Dobson scoring the first goal assisted by Garrett Klompmaker and' Lucas Martin. Highland Storm dumped 3 goals in and the period period ended 3-1. In the second period, Dobson netted his second goal of the game, assisted by Moore and Klompmaker. Then Moore snuck one in assisted by Dobson to even up the score 3- 3. The crowd were sitting on the edge of their scats by now. Jeff Mulder, Tommy Meester, Gardner Cole and Lucas Martin put on a strong defense, but Highland Storm scored with only 2:53 left on the clock. Highland Storm took the lead Thumper On Friday night in Lakefield, Orono's Juveniles handled their opponents easily, winning by a score of 10-1. Sunday night at home was a different story though, as our home team squeaked out a 4-3 victory victory over Centre Hastings. In Friday's game, the offense was rolling. Scott Poole returned from a lengthy absence to play a solid game between the pipes. He combined combined with Chris Wood to hold Lakefield to a single marker. Orono jumped all over Lakefield from the start and didn't let up until the final buzzer. Goal scorers were: 4-3. Josh McGill, Tyler Armstrong, Nick Ruijpers, and Tyler Johansen really put the pressure on in the third period, but just couldn't cash another goal in. Highland scôred once . more with the game ending 5-3 for Highland. Shawn Lowe and Brock Dunham were fantastic in net. Good luck Thursday night in Millbrook. -JM Q.A.A.A. The Dufferin Aggregate Juvenile Leafs haven't had to sweat out many close games this season but when they do, they usually come through in the clutch. Orono did open the scoring midway through the second . period as Aaron Robinson scored from Zach, Ibbotson and Ryan Homes. Hastings tied it up a couple of minutes later and took the lead. Orono came out flying in the. final frame as Chris Field tied the game early assisted by Mark Lemieux and Homes. Less than a minute later, Aaron Robinson potted his second of the game to put Orono ahead 3-2. Assists went to Ricky Howe and Derek Heerschop. Jamie Rowe played hero two minutes later, scoring a beauty from Homes and Lemieux. That goal proved to be the game-winner as Hastings scored a late goal to pull within within one. They couid not muster up another, and Orono pulled out a 4-3 victory. Chris Wood «had a busy game in goal for the home squad and made several big stops to keep Orono within striking distance. Orono looks to extend their impressive 8-game win streak, Sunday at home versus Otonabee. Game time is 4:30. •SW Truck Cap Tykes lose The Easton Major Tykes lost to the Courtice Health Centre team in Orono Friday night. Taylor Tyce was the netmin- der for Orono. Courtice took an early 2-0 lead until hard-working Jennifer Mercer, narrowed the margin With a nice goal. Courtice scored three more in the second period, but Easton's team played hard and Chris Haass was able to score on a breakaway. Courtice scored twice more before Chris Haass could score for the Tykes on a, combined combined effort with Ian Third. Third picks up his first assist •of the season. All the players came out on the ice ready to play a strong game. Manvers scored one in the first and one in the second periods. Alex Hart played an awesome game with many shots being fired at him. UPI had many chances but couldn't couldn't manage to slip one by the Manvers' net minder. UPI held their own and played a tough game but walked away with a 2-0 loss. On November 21, Orono headed to Mariposa for a 7pm , game. They were expecting a hard game against the strong Mariposa team but felt good holding the M$rriposâ team to a 4-0 win. Shane Winters played a strong game in net. On' November 24, the UPI • team came out on the ice with good intentions but couldn't seem to make plays. Fenelon Falls managed 7 goals throughout the game. UPI had some good, solid shots on net but only managed to put one point on the board for the game. Andrew Kirkbride scored in the 3rd assisted by Josh Flynn.
