^ Orono Weekly Times - Wednesday, September 25,2002 - 7 A record number of chili cookers cookers participated in Orono's forth annual Chili Cook-off. Judges . were hard pressed to select the best chili's from the 23 entries they tasted. When the tasting was complete, the panel of three judges selected the chili made by Donna Clemment as their favourite. The People's Choice award went to Don Brosseau. : The trio of Evan Moore, Doug Garlick and Chris Moffat representing representing Di's Pizza received the award for the spiciest chili. The entry of Pam Oakes was selected as the best vegetarian chili while Gerry and Lorrain Skipwith received the award for best booth, with the Hillbilly booth coming in second. Organizers were very pleased with the turn out on Saturday, as over 300 participants cast a ballot for their favourite chili. The main drag was closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as cook-off festivities festivities took over the street with activities for all ages. "Hot stuff in Orono" 2003 is already in the planning stages as organizers look for ways to make next year's chili cook-off even better!
