He was bom in April 1919 at the family farm in Clarke Township. Uncle Bob is 5th or 6th generation Rutherford in Canada and to me he is the best part of who we are. He grew up on a farm without central heat, running water, or electricity nor was there a tractor, only horses. They were not rich but enjoyed a good life even through the depression. I know little of my uncle in his younger days. I .do know he went out to work at a horse farm for several years and at the Newcastle box factory before joining my father in his family's business. Uncle Bob married a beautiful woman also from this area, Audrey Adams and they had one son. I feel very close to my uncle's family for we grew up next door to each other. We were a neighbourhood of kids, in and out of each other's homes and always made to feel welcome. We never seemed to raffle his feathers with our adventures. Uncle Bob's favourite thing has always been a new car every 2 or 3 years and the fiddler's fiddler's style music of this area. I think that's what he loved most about Aunt Audrey, she was so talented at the piano. They went to local dances every Saturday night where she played and he listened. Uncle Bob worked with my family for over 35 years. He was a wizard at how to load a truck using far more brains than brawn; and yes, he only had one speed. One day Aunt Audrey phoned the lumber yard and needed help! The clothes drier was on fire! Send Bob home quickly. Bob walked at his usual pace down the block to his home. By the time he got there, the fire was out, so he walked back to work. Last night I went to visit Uncle Bob at my cousin's home. He is very close to losing losing his battle with cancer and yet is at home with people who love him. I would like to thank Uncle Bob and Aunt Audrey, though she is now gone, for their steady, sensible and strong support. They were close at a tragic time in our lives and provided my family with help that can never be measured nor repaid. He was my saviour on a few occasions and kept a few secrets for me too. I am proud to say that I carry some of that good Canadian farm stock blood in my veins. Thanks Uncle Bob for being who you are. You have made my life richer. high scores for September 10 M BOWLER GAME GAME ONE TWO Jean Hall 156 168 Alec Martin 167 153 Marilyn Martin 156 Eleanor Perrin 177 Maureen Powell 151 Bertha Powell 154 Russell Powell 193 184 Sheila Stiles 169 John Tigwell 213 Bill Wade 179 Marg Wade 182 r Community Events... §atur.day»§epterob<?r 21 Euchre Tournament at Orono Arena - 7 p.m. Proceeds to Arena Building Fund.
