The third CD - 'Apocalypse', featuring the music of Canadian composer William Gordon, was released in December 2000. A fourth recording, "Gaîté Canadienne", comprised entirely of music by Canadian composers, will be recorded in June 2001, for autumn release. In 1998 the band began presenting public performances and is now in its fourth season of concerts. There have been two appear- ances at the McMaster- Yamaha Low Brass Symposium in Hamilton as well as performances in Barrie, Brantford and North York. In the summer of 2000 Intrada Brass participated in the first annual Great Canadian Town Band Festival in Orono, Ontario and has been invited to appear again in 2002. Intrada Brass performs primarily as an authentic British-style brass band play- ing a wide repertoire with the goal of encouraging the com- position and arranging of Canadian music for brass and percussion. In the 1998/99 season the band gave the first performance of "Gaîté Canadienne" by Toronto composer Lothar Klein, com- missioned by Intrada Brass with funds from the Ontario Arts Council. This is the principal work on a CD of Canadian music for brass released in May 2002. The disc also includes music by Robert Famon, David Woods, Kevin Norbury and Morley Calvert. This CD and other Intrada Brass CDs will be on sale during and after the band's concert on June 15 at 12 noon. In its brief history, Intrada Brass has performed with such artists as pianist Leslie De'Ath, sopranos Sharia Nafziger and Lynn Janes, trumpeter Johnny Cowell, jazz trombonist Alastair Kay of Rob McConnell's Boss Brass, Philip Smith, principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, trombone vir- tuosos Alain Trudel, principal players from the United States Marine Band of Washington, D.C. and Ronald Romm, until recently1 a member of the Canadian Brass. Intrada Brass is comprised of professional, semi-profes- sional and amateur players, all of whom devote their time and talent for the sheer joy of making music, and who com- mute from many parts of southern Ontario to partici- pate. The Founding Music Director of the band is Bram Gregson of London where, for over twenty five years, he was the conductor of the dis- tinguished London Citadel Band of The Salvation Army which, under his direction, toured extensively in Canada, the United States and Europe? and made many best-selling recordings. Earlier in his career he was a euphonium soloist with the Band of the Coldstream Guards and the legendary Tottenham Citadel Band of The Salvation Army in Britain. In addition to his post with Intrada Brass, Mr. Gregson is the Music Director of Brassroots, a London-based chamber brass ensemble. In 1993 he was elected to the prestigious American Bandmasters Association in recognition of his outstanding services to the band move- ment in North America. He has also served on the board of directors of the North American Brass Band Association. In recent years he has been in great demand as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor in Canada, the United States and Europe.
