Hill Of m iiliicp : : :AV = S PO R TS Peewees try their best in March Break tournament On March 5 the Orono squad went to Sunderland for an exhibition game. The team was looking forward to an easy game but was surprised when the Sunderland team came out scoring. Sunderland put the first three points on the board. Orono kicked into action in the second when Kyle Balson scored with a pass up from Greg Howe and Will Huebert. Josh Flynn scored another up from Devon Robinson and Kyle Balson. Orono couldn't come back with enough goals for a tie or win. Final score 4- 2 for Sunderland. During March break, Orono hosted their annual tournament. tournament. The Pee wee's played on the Thursday. The first game was at 7:30 am against Cobourg. Cobourg put the first point on the board. Within 2 minutes the Orono team slipped one of their own between the posts. The point went to Scott Henderson, assisted by Dan Reilly. With only 28 seconds left in the period, Cobourg slipped another one by the Orono netminder, putting the Cobourg team ahead by 1. Second period play was bard and fast but neither team scored. Orono worked hard but couldn't manage to tie it up and with 1 minute left in the game, Cobourg scored again. Final score 3-1 for Cobourg. In little time Orono was again on the ice, this time facing facing Norwood. This game was another close one with Norwood scoring first and Orono tying it up halfway through the second. Hardworking Hardworking Jessie Rice earned the point assisted by Kyle Balson up from Devon Robinson. Orono couldn't seem to find the twine again but Norwood popped 2 more in. Final score 3-1 for Norwood. The third and final game of the day was against the Newcastle squad. Orono and Newcastle have a lot of history as friends playing friends. Late in the second, Newcastle kicked into high gear and won the match 7-0. The day was still enjoyed by all. With the season almost over, the Orono team was invited up to Little Britain for an exhibition exhibition game. It was a big day for the town of Orono which was hostingthree All Ontario Final games. The Peewee team was pumped. Scott Henderson started the scoring off with a backhanded goal assisted by Matt Moffat up from Brien Konopka. In the second period Matt Moffat slipped one in with a great pass from Greg Howe up from Mike Hicks. Jessie Rice slipped the next one in assisted by Devon Robinson up from goalie Shane Winters. Dan Reilly managed the next point assisted assisted by Matt Moffat from Scott Henderson. The third period was a scoring scoring frenzy with Matt Bester earning 2 points, Mike Hicks getting a great backhanded goal, Matt Moffat making a great slap shot, and Dan Reilly taking a point right from the face off. Assists went to Dan Reilly, Jessie Rice, Scott Henderson and Matt Bester. These games could not have been played without our stellar netminders Shane Winters and Alex Hart and our dedicated coaching staff. Christine Kadykalo represented represented the Orono Figure Skating Club at the Ontario Interclub Competition in Sudbury on March 16th placing placing 4th, earning herself a spot on the Eastern Ontario Section team. She placed first at Eastern Ontario Invitational Competition in Whitby which allowed her to go onto the Ontario Interclub Competition. Jevon Staples scored the first goal, assisted by Cody Dulbecco. Tanner Johnson was between the pipes for the first half of the game. Derek Snow scored Orono's second goal assisted by Mitchell Harding. Mathew Mercer and Jordan MacDonell showed the crowd some excel lent defensive plays. The first period ended 2-0 for Orono. Bowmanville scored early in the second period but Chad Moore answered back, potting a single, assisted by Zaçk Flood and Mitchell Harding. Bryce Cochrane did the goaltending goaltending for the second half of the game and came up with some spectacular saves., The strong defense team of Lucas Martin and Harley McColl played aggressively but couldn't couldn't stop Bowmanville from scoring a second point. The second period ended 3-2. Mitchell Harding was able to show us some fancy stick- .... handling skills and score unassisted unassisted and short-handed. Bowmanville scored with 6:51 on the clock. With Mitchell, Derek and Noel Snow all at the net .slapping at the puck, Noel finally potted one in. Neale Aziz and Kevin Jackson both came close to scoring but luck wasn't with them. The game ended 5-3 for Orono. The Government of Ontario has offered OPSEU members a fair and reasonable wage offer over three years. This offer is similar to those already accepted by other Ontario public service unions. OPSEU has rejected this offer and is now on strike. The Government remains available to return to the table at any time. In addition: • an immediate 10 per cent raise for nurses; • an immediate eight per cent raise for ambulance dispatchers; • an immediate eight per cent raise for scientists; • additional compensation to Waste and Water Treatment • Operators and mechanics employed by the Ontario Clean Water Agency to recognize credentials upgrading; • an increase in shift premiums for non-correctional employees employees to 78 cents per hour for hours worked between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. to better reflect market rates; and • a one per cent pay-for-performance pool for employees who are at the maximum of their salary ranges.
