Thedford won game number three on Sunday in Orono with a score of 2-1 which gives them a one game advantage over the Orono team. Game number four will be played in Dresden on Friday, with the final, game scheduled for Orono on Sunday. Stuff's second playoff loss They've had two wins and now two losses in the Novice hockey playoffs. Stutt's Novice Hockey Team played hard on Saturday, but they just couldn't stop Bill's Truck Stop from getting a 3-2 win. . •. ' - V ,v , The first; period 1 was pretty calm with a number of nice saves by goalie Key i n Schoenmaker, \arid some great. defense work by Cory Weis. • ' In the second, Stutt's sped up, putting out a lot of often-' sive pressure. Brandon Cox grabbed the . puck in : the Bowmanville end, deked out the defenseman, skated past the goalie who was ready on the right side of: the net, and tried to backhand it in on the left side. The goalie moved quickly and knocked the puck back out. Cox nabbed the puck again, shot...but again it rebounded. The puck went out to the side, just behind the goal post. Cox hooked it with his stick, brought it around the post and shoved it in! It was 1- 0 for Orono. The second period period didn't end on a victorious note, though. With only two minutes left, Bowmanville managed to punch in two goals making the score at the end of the second 2-1 for Bowmanville. The pressure was on in the third! The puck was flying, players were falling, and the pace of the game had tripled since the first period. The puck was sliding down the ice along the boards to the Bowmanville red line. Christopher Hermanssen raced after it, finally catching up just before the puck slipped over the line. He took a quick shot from the boards and the puck Hew past the right goal post on just enough of an angle to make it across the goal line and crash into the netting behind the left goal post! It was 2-2, but Bowmanville slipped another goal in a minute later, making the score 3-2. There were still 10 minutes left in the game, and although both teams put out a full effprt, , neither could get another goal, : though Orono came close a few times. They lost the game but the playoffs aren't over ; yet. 1 V-j -AD v (continued from page 2) : i Bowmanville Museum passed a motion at their last meeting stating that they did not sup-i port the formation of a transitional transitional board that would disenfranchise disenfranchise certain board members members by not offering them voting voting privileges. The recommendation recommendation of five votes for each board was dropped by committee of council on Monday. A job search will be launched immediately to fill the Museum Administrator position at an annual salary in the $46,000 range and that of curator for the Clarington Museums with an annual salary in the range of $40,000. The museum's current curator, Charles Taws was hired on a six month contract basis in February. Taws spends four days a week at Bowmanville Museum, and one day, Thursdays, at Clarke. The need for additional space at both museums was identified in the * review process. Councillors agreed to dedicate the main floor of the presènt Bowmanville Library building to the museum museum when it becomes available next year. The Clarke Museum's archives will be moved to the new facility and combined with the Bowmanville Museum's archival material. While the Visual Arts Centré (VAC) as a municipal cultural institution was included in the cultural review, that board indicated they are happy with their present organizational structure structure which has proved to be efficient and effective for their purposes. The VAC is operating under Provincial charter as a not-for-profit community agency in a municipally owned building. Although the VAC board did express a desire to have their employees become municipal employees as a means to improve the wages and benefits benefits available to their staff, this was not recommended in the cultural review report. Both museums were identified identified in the report as having done an excellent job of documenting documenting the historical heritage heritage of different aspects of our past. The Bowmanville Museum reflects the lifestyle of a merchant family in the early 1900s and boasts one of the best antique doll, collections collections in Canada while the Clarke Museum and Archives depicts the rural heritage of Ladies Bowling Monday Night Newcastle Bowling Alley ■ March 25th GAME GAME GAME 12 3 Ann McGuey 222 227 Anne Arsenault 181 Betty Major 216 192 265 (4 strikes in a row - $5.00) Dorella Lancaster- Forget 219 177 Karen Collier 206 Karen Geboers 189 179 Lenore Beckmann 182 181 Lori Sinclair 191 Marie Wood 226 306 Marilyn Major 250 209 188 (5 strikes in a row ■ $10.00) Michele Whelan 185 Valerie Witheridge 240 183 50/50 Winner - Dorella Lancaster-Forget (for the 5th time) the community from its century century schoolhouse in Kirby. As the municipality continues continues to grow, the new museum museum administration structure leaves room for opportunities to document and preserve a wider range of our cultural heritage. Items identified for potential exploration were the impact of the waterfront on our historical development, a detailed study of the history of Courtice, and the impact of various local mills on the development of Clarington. Once the new organizational organizational structure is in place they will be asked to develop a more detailed strategy to address the whole issue of the development of Cultural and Heritage services and municipal municipal support in the future.
