This year's World Day of Prater services, written by the women of Romania reflects on. the theme, "Challenge to Reconcile." Romania, an Eastern European country, is a country of many contrasts. Most o f its population of nearly 23 mil lion live in poverty, a result of failed economic reforms and high unemployment rates since the country overthrew its 45-year communist regime and dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in 1989. Yet the country has a rich cultural heritage ,and bountiful natural resources. The Women's Inter-Church Council of -three Ororio area churches -- Orono United, Kirby United and St. Saviour's Anglican ha.ve cqordinated their services' in bringing this year's World Day of Prayef Orono. The service will be held at the Orono United Church beginning at 7:00 p in. Seeinl kreak-and-eater at Kirby lone The home of Brian and Ruth Colville on Cooney Rd. in Kirby was the scene of a break-and-enter for the second time in three weeks. Mr. Colville called police Monday afternoon when he came" home from work and discovered the plate glass in the front door of his home smashed. The home had been ransacked, and a large number of items had been remove, including a quantity of jewelry, jewelry, electronic equipment, and two black leather jackets. On the .previous break-in which occurred on Thursday, January 24th the culprits left no sign! of a forced entiy. On that occasion only the computer computer that (Katie Colville wori on .January 15th in the Orono Figure Skating Club draw and ,a pair of speakers were stolen. Those items were recovered a few days later when hikers in the Ganaraska * F orest came across a quantity of personal property in the woods and notified police. Both incidents are still under investigation. Mutton to seek G RCA Chair : i, darington' s Mayor John Mutton will be vying for the Chair at the upcoming Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority's annual meeting. Current Chair, Mr. Larry Hall announced the the GRCA's- last meeting, held in January, that he would not be seeking re-election. Hall succeeded succeeded Ann Dreslinski as Chair- following her unsuccessful unsuccessful municipal re-election campaign in 1997. * The GRCA's annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2001 at their administration office, 2216 County Road 28, Port Hope, beginning at 7:15.
