They opened 2002 in Little Britain against the Mariposa Lightning Orono got the ball rolling m w s early as Steve Burt scored the lone goal in the first period assisted by Chris Moffat and Steve Hicks. They extended that lead early in the second when Doug Garlcik scored from Mark Spiers and Kyle Cox. Orono went up 3-0 about four minutes later as Kyle Allin scored from Greg Dunham and Brian Pisani. Mariposa broke Ian Crashley's bid for a shut-out later in the period, but Orono shut them down in the third frame and secured a 3-1 victory. victory. Two nights later the boys were at home against a very good Wood v ille Hurricane team. Orono scored first. Mark Spiers continued his strong play, scoring from Doug Garlick and Kyle Cox. This game was an excellent back and forth battle but Orono pretty much put it away in the second period by scoring twice in a five minute span. Eddy Meester, Ty Simpson, Carson Quinn, Adam Duke, Sean Bargeant and Ty Middleton provided solid defense. Third period action included included Tyler Webster scoring a short-handed beauty off super passes from Sean Bargeant and Gregory St. James. Jesse Desourdy gave a great pass to Spencer Cole, who then fired the puck fop shelf. Newcastle remained scoreless and the Leafs took Game One by a score of 4-0. The Orono Leafs dominated the game but just couldn't get the puck in the net. * v Bowmanville scored the first goal at 8:14 in the first period. Devon Robinson managed to slip one in assisted by Josh Flynn. The team helej Ops off but couldn't couldn't catch up. Final score: 4-1 for Fenelon Falls. Orono's Codv Dulbecco, Jordan, and Harley McColl helped set up a great play so that Andrew could pass to Jevon, who scored his second goal of the game. The second period ended 2-2. Matthew Mercer dug in the comers for the puck and kept the puck inside the blue line. Wingers Chad Moore and Kevin Jackson tried several times to pop it in the net, but just couldn't cash in. They did a great job keeping it in the opposition's end, but just couldn't score. In the third period, Harley did a fine job as winger, scoring scoring a goal assisted by Jevon. Then Bowmanville scored on a power play to even thé score again. Tanner Johnston made our hearts go pitter-patter by not having his stick on the ice as the puck came sliding by just as the game buzzer sounded! Luckily the puck hit the post and didn't go in! On Wednesday, January 16.-' 2002, the Atoms played an ' exhibition game in Manvefs and earned a win 3-1. In the first period, Jordan sebred the first goal right from the face off.
