June 7, 2000 -5 Markham Pioneers steal one from Kendal Eagles A four, run lead wasn't quite enough for the visiting Eagles May 27th, when the Markham Pioneers came from behind to win 6-4. Markham pitcher, Mike Lloyd had a disastrous first inning. With one out, he walked Mark Foster and Steve Dawe. He struck out cleanup batter Troy Foster then walked John Robinson. With the bases loaded, Cory Baker belted a two-run double double cashing in Mark Foster and Dawe. Mike Landers followed followed with a two-run single allowing Robinson and Baker to score before closing out the inning with another strikeout. Lloyd regained his composure composure and managed to shut down Kendal's offense from that point on allowing them only three more hits belonging belonging to Troy Foster, Cory Fenton and Mike Landers. Markham scattered 10 hits throughout eight scoring two in the' first, one in the third, and taking a 5-4 lead in the fifth before adding one more in the seventh thus coming from behind to steal the game with a 6-4 victory over Kendal. Challice The monthly Community Care dinner was served by the ladies of St. Saviour's Church,Wednesday May 31 in Orono United Church hall. A delicious salad luncheon was served to a large crowd. Following the luncheon an excellent ' form of entertainment was presented - "The Monica Rose Fashions Spring Fashion Show"! With nine local ladies as models an excellent variety of colourful outfits were displayed. Many compliments were given, from both the women and men!
