Members of Orono's National Power Skating major tykes pictured above, almost went all the way in their first tournament of the season. National Power Skaters go to final in Warsaw National Power Skating Major Tykes ventured to Warsaw for what was their first tournament of the season and what a tournament! The youngsters, youngsters, after two victories over St. Alphonsus and the All Saints, found themselves in the championship final against Immaculate. The locals, although unable to extend their winning streak one more game, played an excellent tournament up to and including the 9-1 loss to Immaculate. Spencer Cole scored the Power Skater's lone goal while Courtney Elson played superbly in net for all three games. Enroute to the final, the Orono Power Skating crew upset St. Alphonsus in game one by a convincing 5-2 score. Orono's goal-getters were Sean Bargent with two, Spencer Cole, Jordyn Moore and Robert VanGrootel (with his first of the season) all added singles. Game two saw Orono make quick work of All Saints who were without a prayer falling 10-1. Randy Clugston led the scoring with a hat-trick. Gregory St. James and Spencer Cole combined for two apiece. Brandon Lane, Bargent and Moore all added singles. Strong defensive play by Ty Simpson, Dakota Doyle and Carson Quinn kept the opponents scoring scoring to a minimum. Coaches for the National Power Skaters were extremely proud of their team's accomplishments accomplishments in bringing home runner-up medals. The team is now looking forward to their new millennium games commencing commencing this Friday at the Orono Arena. Pictured above is Tyler Webster who does double^duty for the Dufferin Aggregates Major Tykes wearing #1 when playing in net and #9 playing out on defense. Tyler posted a shut-out, scored a hat- trick and collected an assist in holiday tournament play. Dufferin Aggregates semi-finalists in holiday tournament Russ Major Plumbing ushers in new year going 4 & 2 Now that the holiday season is over, those visions of sugar plums certainly didn't affect the play of Orono's Russ Major Plumbing Novice Rep team or prevent them from taking care of business. December 15, saw the visiting visiting novices oust their Manvers hosts 4-1. Nancy Burt and Matt Dobson scored for Orono with Dobson collecting a hat-trick and assisting on Burt's goal with Matt Field. Burt also chalked up three assists. Then, the 'Plumbers' took on Newcastle at home December 17 and unfortunately, unfortunately, were dumped 6-1. Dobson scored Orono's lone goal. December 20. saw the Leafs venture on to Oak wood doubling doubling out Mariposa 4-2. And, once again, it was Matt Dobson with a hat-trick scoring in each period with Jevon Staples also adding a goal in the third. Assists went to Staples, Mike Barnes and Matt Field. December 23 featured a rematch with the Stars in Newcastle. Orono staged an amazing defense but came up a little short falling 3-2 to their hosts. Turkey dinners didn't affect Leaf play when visiting Bobcaygeon December 27. The locals downed Bobcaygeon 4-1. Scoring for Orono was Tommy Meester with Btirt and Barnes assisting. Field found the mark on an assist from Dobson , and Andrew McLatchey. Dobson added his own in the second with help from Tanner Johnston. Dobson then finished it off in the third with assists going to Shelby MacDonell and Burt. January 2 the Leafs harnessed harnessed Feztelon Falls 4-1. Matt Field scored first unassisted. Burt followed suit with help from MacDonell and Joey VanDusen. Meester added one in the second and third unassisted. unassisted. Matt Puddicombe made his return between the pipes and played well allowing only one goal while Tanner Johnston finished finished the game in net. Also making contributions to the game were. Katie Definney, Jeremy Caruana, Jeff Mulder and Lucas Martin (congratulations (congratulations on your new brother brother Jacob!). The Russ Major Plumber's last home game will be January 7th at 7 p in. versus Ops. The Dufferin Aggregates Major Tykes played, tremendously tremendously during holidays in the N.À.S.C. House League hockey hockey tournament. In fact, the locals came out semi-finalists with a 2-1 -1 record. After a slow season start, with only two wins and many, many almost-wins, the Dufferin Aggregate crew dug deep, fought hard and earned every one of their wins throughout the four-day tournament. The players played as a team executing great passing plays offensively and break-up. plays on defense. Netminders, Matt Vignale'and Tyler Webster, both posted shut-outs and gave solid performances throughout the tournament. Scoring cumulatively throughout the tournament were: Eddy Meester (4), Chris Lunn (3) Tyler Webster (3), Kyle Sulljvan (2), Nick Weeden, Brandon Cox and Kevin Schoenmaker with one each. Earning assists were: Lunn (4), Weeden (3), Cox (3), Cory Weiss ,(2), Webster (1), Nick Lawrence (1), . and Kurtis Zwolinski (1). Although Jordan Sullivan didn't make it on the score sheet, his defensive play was most effective. Apple Blossoms collide with Hutton Transport Orono's atoms, sponsored by the Apple Blossom Shop met up with Hutton Transport Sunday evening at home. This match up proved to be a close and fast- paced game. Orono goal-getters were .Brock McGill, Jonathan Picco and Lucas Leech. Assisting on these goals were Emma Lunn, Daniel Hodgson, Chris Gallant and Greg Howe. Great work on defense by Paul Bridger, Cory Veloce, JoSh Flynn and Ben McKelvie. Thanks to many awesome saves by Alex Hart the final score ended in a three-all tie. On December 20th, the Apple Blossom atoms returned home as 'C' champs from the Lakefield tournament.
