4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, December 13, 1989 SPORTS Orono J&M Custom Framing Tykes On Saturday, November 25, 1989, Orono Tyke Team II played in Bowmanville against A & R Flooring, and skated to a 5 to 2 victory. victory. Scoring for Orono were Jamie Parry with 2, Brandon Caruana, Jeff Thompson, and Christopher Bowley with one each. Jonathan Black played a good game in goal. On December 2, 1989, Orono Tyke Team II played at Orono Arena against Bowmanville Skylight Donuts, coming out on the short end of a 6-0 score. All of the boys played a strong game, but Bowmanville were just the better team on this day. Jeffrey Thompson Thompson played a strong game in goal. On Wednesday, December 6, 1989 the Cjrono J&M Custom Fencing Fencing Tykes played the Orono Roughley Insurance Tykes and skated to à 3-0 victory. Both teams played a Tine game with J&M Custom Fèncing getting a couple of timely bounces. Both goalies, Jamie Parry and Justin Standeven made some verylgood saves. Scoring for J & M vvere Jonathan Black unassisted. The next goal was scored by Brandon Caruana from Andrew Beacock and Brandon Hills. The final score of the night came off the stick of Tyler Robinson Robinson assisted by Christopher Bowley and Jonathan Black. On Friday, December 8, 1989 the Orono J&M Custom Fencing Tykes and the Newcastle Tykes played to a 4-4 tie. Andrew Beacock played a strong game in goal for Orono. Scoring for Orono were Tyler Robinson from Brandon Caruana. Then Jamie Parry scored unassisted, then scored again assisted by Dave Lammers. The final Orono goal was scored by Jonathan Black assisted by Brandon Brandon Caruana. Players from both teams skated hard and put forth a fine effort. On Saturday, December 9, 1989 the Orono J & M Custom Framing Tykes had an exciting 4-1 victory over Bowmanville VIP Hairstyling. There were excellent chances at both ends with Orono scoring first on a goal by Bobby Witheridge assisted py Brandon Caruana. The next goal was scored again by Bobby Bobby Witheridge unassisted. After a scoreless second period,. Andrew Beacock scored in the third period assisted by Bobby Witheridge. The final goal of the game completed the hattrick for Bobby Witheridge unassisted. Christopher Bowley made some excellent stops in net. All the boys played a strong game. Orono Novice Hockey news report On December 6th, Orono travelled travelled to Colborne for U.C.H.L. game. While the weather turned bad, an exciting exciting game awaited the fans and parents. Colborne took the first two goals during the first three minutes. Orono fought back in the next three scoring one by Jeremy Pare assisted by Steve Foster, with the home side scoring one more in thé first. Score was 3-1 Colborne. Colborne started out strong in the second scoring one after two minutes of play. End to end action took place for the next five minutes with Orono finally scoring at 8:35, Andrew R'eid from Bobby Witheridge and Jeremy Pare. It was exciting hockey for the next eight minutes but with five seconds left in the second Colborne scored, it was now 5-2. As the third period started Orono realized they were down by three, the coaches shuffled some lines arid provided some encouragement. The result being Orono scored .three goals within six minutes. The first* Murphy Irvine on a break away, second second Jeremy Pare assisted by Andrew Andrew Reid, then with the third going to Steve Foster assisted by Clint Hawks-haw, game tied 5-5. However, in the last seven minutes, Colborne scored two .fluke goals thus breaking the backs and spirits of the Orono t,eam. Colborne pocketed one more pretty goal with the end result being 8-5 for Colborne. Colborne. A good game played by Ryan Schoep in goal and a good team effort put forth by the rest of the Orono players. On December 8th, Orono hosted Bewdley in a U.C.H.L. game, it was the first time this season that Orono had a look at the Bewdley team. The players got a pep talk before the game in the dressing room. And it showed on the ice and scoreboard, with Orono dominating the play throughout the full 45 minute game. The first period saw Jeremy Pare, Steve FoSter, score goals,, assists going going to Andrew fjeid, Jeremy Pare and Steve Foster. In the sbeond period Steve Foster • sepred unassisted, Alan Robb scored twice with both assists going to Steve Foster, Jamie Richter unassisted making it 7-0.. In the third period Orono pocketed three more, Steve Foster unassisted, Jonas Bonnetta unassisted, Murphy Irvine from Alan Robb and 'Andrew' Reid unassisted. The final score was 11-0 for Orono. The Bewdley team had a poor outing just one of the things that happen from time to time. 1 think we will face a much stronger team in Bewdley next time. Ryan Schoep got his first shut out of the season, good game played by Amy- Jane McAllister, Kevin Copping, Kyle Beacock, Clint Hawkshaw, Mike Morrison and Bobby Witheridge, as * well as the goal scorers and assistées. A Major Project for the Bowmanville Lakefront The Town of Newcastle is to undertake a waterfront development development study subject to funding from the Province of Ontario or with funding from development interests within the study area. The Ministry of Tourism and Recreation is being asked for a portion portion of the cost of the study. Mayor Hubbard said she saw this as a major project and wanted the project expedited as soon as possible possible and that it not become bogged down. A 496 unit plan gains approval The Town council gave their approval approval on a 4 to 3 vote on Monday to a government plan to develop a 496 residential development on government lands east of Mearns Avenue and north of Concession Street. The plan is to be phased in over a number of years. To Arrange Meeting With Public School Board Mayor Hubbard has been given authority to arrange a meeting with the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education to consider issues of mutual concerns. The Town and School Board were to meet in November but only two members of council were able to.attend with the result the meeting was cancelled. Would collect leaves after Thanksgiving Mrs. Evylin Stroud of Bowmanville Bowmanville has suggested to the Region of Durham that Newcastle had arranged arranged pick-up of leaves too late in the season, November 20 and 27, She suggested that the program be moved ahead lo I he week-end following thanksgiving. According to Larry ,Hannah the suggestion is being considered by the Public Works til the Region of Durham.
