Cowman also spoke to the meeting said there were concerns concerns but that any vote should only be held at the point when all information information is available. Mayor Winters said there had to be a political will to solve the garbage garbage crisis and he felt that the technology was available for the solution. "I'm supportive of your cause," he said. Gary Herrema, chairman of the Region of Durham stated he felt that Regional council members would vote for a full Environmental Assessment hearing for any dump proposal. He also said he felt that the same councillors would turn down Laidlaw's Official Plan amendment, but that the vote could be close. The chairman also stated that the Region would be going on their own for a short term solution for their disposal site and felt it would not be the Laidlaw site. Mrs. Sproat, chairman of the library board, stated that Mr. Lover was looking for a history not just an overview. Sid Rutherford was ruled, out of order when he tried to speak on this matter slating that his name had been used ip the discussion. ■ Mrs. Sproat said, the library's budget was presently under review by the town. She said the board would give consideration of the presentation and would advise as to the plans of the study. .... Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, March 23, 1988-3 Summer camping for disabled adults The Ontario March of Dimes is a charitable organisation with varied programs and services for physically physically disable adults. Among them is the camping program which is used and enjoyed by many disabled adults from all over Ontario. Last summer, as many as 282 disabled adults enjoyed a vacation at the three locations in Sudbury, Herrema spoke of the probability of incineration in the Region early in the 1990s. He pointed out that two hearings were now underway for incineration and when completed completed these could give direction to Durham. "You need a user of energy before the incinerators become viable", he aid and he then noted that these were somewhat few and far between. Counc. McKnight also spoke opposing opposing the application. "Not here!', he said', Bernie Martin, Kendal said much depends on the individuals attitude as far as a solution to the garbage crisis. He sàid we must recycle and also be cautious of purchasing items over packaged. Mayor Winters emphazied that those present not let down their guard and said that the Laidlaw site still could be an active cosideration by the Region for their use over a period of five to ten years. He asked those present to do battle at the Region. David Scott asked the gathering to sign their petition, make contact with all politicians expressing views of opposition, write letters, give financial help. He also called on all present to' attend the Town of Newcastle meeting on Monday night, March 28th supporting the committee in opposing the expansion expansion of the Laidlaw dump. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. Bolton and Bradford.
