'Mike's Place midgets keep on top in series Top Round Robin Undefeated Newcastle 8 - Beaverton 2 On Monday, February 1st the "Mike's Place" Midgets travelled to Beaverton for game 4 of Round Robin play and overpowered the Beaverton club by an 8 - 2 score, which was identical to game 3 played in Newcastle against Beaverton. As in game 3 the Newcastle club came out flying and with 1:58 gone in the period Ted Gaudet put the iocai lads ahead 1 - 0 assisted by Stuart: Irwin and David Bailey, seventeen seconds later David "Hot Hand" Bailey made it 2 - 0 assisted by Stuart Irwin and Tyrone' Sluymers. With 6:19 left in the period Stuart "Hurricane" Irwin upped the count to 3 - 0 assisted by Ted Gaudet. The second period saw Newcastle up the count to 4 - 0 with Brian "The Lip" Hill doing the honours assisted by Richard "Magic" Maki ' and Dwayne Martin. Newcastle 8 - Utile Britain 2 Thursday, January 4th saw the "Mike's Place" Midgets come up with their third straight 8-2 victory as they went head to head with Little Little Britain for first place and home advantage against Little Britain in a 3 out of 5 show down to sec who moves on to the next round. Although the score read 8 - 2 in Newcastle's favour this was definitely not a one sided affair as, the Britain club came out flying only only to be stopped cold by Eric Jensen between the Newcastle pipes who had a hot hand all night. The first period saw a scoreless tie as Little Britain probably had an edge in play and the local lads still trying to get out of first gear. The second period was probably one of Newcastle's best efforts of the year as they were to find the net for 6 big unanswered goals as they could do no wrong. With 0:45 seconds gone in the period Richard "Magic" Maki put the local lads on the board assisted by Marty "Mr. Hustle" Robinson. Stuart "Hurricane" "Hurricane" Irwin made it 2 - 0 assisted by "Magic" Maki and Firic Jensen. "Howie" Sikma who was flying aii night then tipped in a shot from the point to make it 3 - 0 assisted by Daryl Burke and Patrick Woods. Richard "Magic" Maki who had his best game of the season then made it 4 - 0 with his second of the night assisted by Todd Therteli and Brian Hill. With 4:29 left in the period Daryl "The Playmaker" Burke upped the score to 5 - 1 with "Howie" Sikma and Dwayne Martin. Martin. assisting. The third period saw the local lads come out coasting with a big 6-0 lead and before they new it Little Britain collected two 1 including one while being 'shorthanded 'shorthanded to cut the score 6-2. The second goal woke the local lads up as they came alive to score two of their own to end the game at 8 - 2. Scoring for Newcastle were "Howie" Sikma with his second of the game assisted by Mark Vanderheyden and Daryl Burke, then Stuart "Hurricane"' Irwin assisted by David Bailey and Todd Therteli. Excellent team effort guys keep it up! Newcastle 15 - Fenelon Fails 3 Friday, February 5th saw the local lads travel to Fenelon Falls in what was the last game of the Round Robin. As the Fenelon Falls team had been eliminated from further further play most of their team decided 1 not to show for the game leaving it to only five skaters and a goalie, so much for team spirit and dedication. dedication. Scoring for Newcastle Roughley's Novice end regular season Friday night was the last regularly scheduled game for the O.M.H.A. Novices, They played their arch rivals from Millbrook. The skaters once again stormed unto the ice after another of Coach Burnham's chalk talk. The team played one of their best games and had a lead going going into the third period. But true to form Millbrook stormed back to take the lead with only minutes remaining. remaining.
