Has prize- winning garden Junior Gardeners hold annual flower show • 'JR* Scott Bouwmeester of Orono shows off his prize winning garden. Scott's plant and vegetable garden was awarded first prize in the outdoor outdoor garden category by Minnie Zegers who was the judge of the Junior Gardener's summer show. The Junior Gardeners Annual Summer Show presented a flurry of fancy flowered footwear, vegetable animal creatures and a display of prize winning fruits, vegetables and flowers. The children were given the seeds and plants early in the summer and having nurtured and cared for them all season long brought in the end products for judging at the garden show. The following children also received honourable mention, in order of merit: Diana Borremans, Alison Lywak, Amy Lywak, Greg Finlay, Danielle BOrremans, Jen- nette Ftaan, Elicia , Bot, Kelly Heerschop and Michelle Faulkner. The Junior Gardeners held their Summer Flower and Vegetable Show on Wednesday, August 12 at the Orono United Church Hall. Some of the members were absent but 12 children brought flowers and vegetables which they had grown themselves for the show, for a total of 106 exhibits. Then there are the more creative categories such as wild animals, walk on the wildside footwear and toys. All the entries were created with plants from the garden. Minnie Zegers was the judge for the evening and her's was no èasy task revealed as she decided "All these beets deserve a prize!" Although the decision making was difficult the winners were chosen, but the imagination behind the creations and effort to produce all the excellent displays deserves a great amount of praise. Because of the many worthy exhibits, exhibits, and for the encouragement to the members, several extra prizes have been awarded. We would like to thank Mrs. Hawkshaw, and Mr. and Mrs. Finlay for coming out to help for this show. We are also very grateful to the parents who have taken time to supervise and encourage their children to begin growing and showing at an early age.
