On February 15 Orono Novice A faced Manvers winning 8-4. In the first period Jeff Goodmurphy scored assisted by Drew Hansen leading the way to a great game. Closely following Jeff's goal Jamie Shetler put one in assisted by Jason Lawrence ending the first period with 2-2 tie. The tie didn't last long with Orono scoring 3 quick goals in the second period. Goals' scored were by Simon Weagqnt assisted by Sommer West; Jamie Shetler assisted by Jason Lawrence; and Sommer West assisted by Jeff Hughes. The third period opened up with Orono's Jeff Goodmurphy scoring assisted by Sommer West. Manvers then took the puck down the ice to -score but this just urged Orono on to add two more goals to this high scoring game. These last two goals were scored by Johnathan Burnham assisted by Jason Lawrence and Jamie Shetler; Sommer Sommer West assisted by Jeff Hughes. On February 22nd Orono travelled travelled to Ops to come away with another playoff win of 5-2. The first period began with Jamie Shetler getting one of his many breakaways this year scoring unassisted. Jeff Hughes unassisted then scored by bringing the puck around the net and slipping it into an open corner ending the first period with a 2-0 lead. Andrew Burton opened the second second period with a bang by bringing the puck down the ice making a beautiful pass to Jeff Hughes who once again slipped the puck into the open corner of the net. Orono on the rise scored again in this period when Jonathan Burnham assisted by Andrew Hansen hanged in the puck ending the period 4-1. Orono working hard for a safe lead scoring once more at four minutes into the third period when Andrew Burton assisted by Jeff Hughes got the final goal of the game. Honourable mention should be given to Clayton Rendell f£>r his great goaltending and to our defensive players Scott Ransberry, Jeff Goodmurphy, Drew Hdnsen, Andrew Burton and Mark Foster. Later that night we learned that our 7 wins, 4 losses and a tie put us in third place after the round robin playoff so it's into the consolation round we go. Friday, February 27th again saw us back in Ops for a 6:00 game. In this game the Roughley Insurance Roughley Insur. Tykes completes busy schedule 2 Week Report Early on Saturday, Feb. 21 Orono set out to show Blackstock their moves in winning 9-1. Guy Tousignant popped in a quick goal followed by Steve Foster with a beauty in the corner. Danny MacDonald MacDonald has found luck in his new Cooperalls and he scored a sizzler on a quick pass from Devon Witheridge. Guy tallied another unassisted goal and B.J. Hackett quickly followed with another unassisted goal. Guy paired up with Grant Esler for the sixth goal and , Grânt with Devon Witheridge scored the seventh. Guy Tousignant just couldn't be stopped in this game as he scored Jjis fourth goal on a pretty set-up from Scott Sawyer. Adam Van Dam completed the Orono scoring with assists from Greg Bull and Danny MacDonald. Chris Mumby was left with little work to do in the Orono goal. On the same afternoon Orono played the Bowman ville London Life-team. This was a super game as Orono went out in front of Bowman ville 3-1 in the second period only to have London Life tie the score in the third periocj. Danny MacDonald scored the fi/st two goals on high shots into the net. Set-, ting hirtt up for two were Grant Esler, B.J. Hackett and Guy Tousignant. The third Orono goal came from Grant Esler with Adam Van Dam and Guy Tousignant doing doing the backup work. Brett Maartense put on the pads and did the goalie duties in this game. Defensemen Devon Witheride, Scott Sawyer, Stephen Wilson and Adam Van Dam were superb, their dependability gives the Orono team more and more strength. On February 28 Orono again played their arch rival Newcastle 1 in.it Orono now seems to have ■ ■..wcastle's number and beat them,. 5-3 with much of the action coming from goalie Scott Sawyer as he savagely beat off the Newcastle drives. Orono had the added incentive incentive of performing well for the V.C.R. cameras this day. Orono started out quickly running the score up to 3-0. , Danny MacDonald made a classic play from a set-up by B.J. Hackett. At the end of the period Brett Maartense flapped one over the goalie's head. Brett scored the next goal as well as hé moved in after- a pass from storming Steven Wilson. Grant Esler had the next goal, and Chris Mumby picked up the puck from Danny MacDonald and B.J. Hackett and went end-to- end in making a goal fit. Dreams are made in the setting of the fourth game * the'jiome o( the Oshawa Generals arid the site of many W. W.F. wrestling events - the Oshawa Civic Auditorium, the coaches made their entrances in classic wrassling style; coach Sawyer with Captain Lou Albano's hat, Coach Witheridge as the Hart of South, Classy Freddie Blaissie Hackett, and "Mr. Fugi" Hutton. Missing from the entourage was Dave "The Brain" Hutchison. Working hard for all their coaches and managers Orono made magnificent moves in front of goalie Mr. T., Guy Tousignant. Brett Maartense and Grant Esler teamed as the Demolition -,Ax and Smash to score and assist each other on the two Orono goals with Stephen "Santana" Foster getting in with the team on the second goal. "Wrinkles" McAllister just missed the pin or the typing goal as Orono went down to defeat to Oshawa 4-2. Next time dreams of the glorious hockey Generals will win over , . No damage was done in the second period but 7 seconds into the third the J line struck when Jason Lawrence scored from Jamie Shetler. Jamie put Orono into the lead for good with 2:27 left in the game assisted by Drew Hansen and Andrew Burton. Great comeback team. On February 28th we travelled to Baltimore for a tournament minus Mark Foster who is down with the chicken pox. Hope your feeling better better Mark. In the first game we met a team from Duoro and ushered them into the Consolation round by trouncing them 3-2. Jeff Hughes did all the damage when he notched a hat trick and earned the game's MVP award. Sommer West who now is also sidelined with the chicken pox helped out on two of Jeff's goals while Jeff Goodmurphy and Simon Weagant picked up single assists. Hope you're back in action soon Sommer. Kurt Johnson of Duoro threw a real scare into us when he scored twice within 17 seconds in the last minute of play. Up until that time Clayton the Puck Stops Here Rendell had stoned him on a number of breakaways. Great game Clayton as we held on to win 3-2. At 3:00 p.m. we played our arch rival Millbrook a team we've beaten all year, although the games had been very rough, tough and close. Today was to be a different story however as the team just seemed ,to run out of gas. Millbrook sent us home early handing us a 2-0 defeat. Clayton Rendell wort a well deserved deserved MVP award for his work between between the pipes. Remember team, we hâve to shoot the puck to score and like so many times this year we didn't do it against Millbrook.
