Bantams played host to their arch rivals from Newcastle and for the second time this season came away with a victory. victory. The first period saw some' excellent end-to-end action with both goalies comingi up big. With 1:31 left in the period Steven Lycett let one go from just outside the blue line which handcuffed the Newcastle goalie putting the local boys ahead 1-0 unassisted. In the second period the local boys kept the pressure on and outscored Newcastle by a 3-1 count to end the second second period 4-1. Scoring for Grono were: Shawn Bailey assisted by Kevin Hartwig and Brad Roberts; Stuart Ir-- win assisted by Kevin Mum- ford and Steven Lycett; then Darren Lewis with assists going going to Brian Hill and Robert Snoek. The third period saw Newcastle come up with two to close the count to 4-3 only to see Orono's Brad Roberts come out of the penalty box just in time to put in Darren Lewis' perfect pass to up the score to 5-3. With 0:01 second left in the game Steven Lycett came up with his second of the game to give Orono a big 6-3 win with Kevin Mumford coming with the assist. Excellent effort guys! Special mention to Steven Lycett. Orono 3 - Bowmanviile 0 Monday, December 5t'h, saW' the Stutts O.M.H.A. Bantams win their 10th game in a row as they played host to the Bowmanviile Toros# team and come away with an exciting 3-0 shutout. This was probably one of the fàstest played games of the year as both teams stuck to good hockey with only two minor penalties apeace. Nonstop Nonstop end-to-end action saw the boys play 3 fifteen minute stop time periods in just one hour flat. The first period saw both teams with excellent scoring chances but excellent goaltending goaltending at both ends kept the score 0-0. Finally with 6:18 left in the second period Stuart Irwin put Orono ahead 1-0 on a quick wrist shot with assists going to Russell Sullivan and Shawn Bailey. The third period saw the Toros come close again and again only to be turned back by the hot goaltending of Jeff Martin. With 8:59 left in thé game Robert Snoek jammed one in to make it 2-0. Assisted by Scott McCullough. McCullough. Then with 7:42 left in the game Brad Roberts closed out the scoring as he banged one in assisted by Kevin Hartwig to end a very exciting game Orono 3, Bowmanviile 0. Orono maintained the lead for only 8 minutes, before Newcastle worked the puck through Orono's defence to end the game at a tie 2-2. Great effort in net by Ken Cameron for Orono. Wednesday night November 30th, Orono left home ice to play their second game against Manvers this season in Manvers. Orono played a good game, however, losing by a score of 8-3. Orono openeft the game' with a well earned goal by Michael Brisson, unassisted. Manvers then managed 5 goals on the scoreboard, before Michael had an opportunity to score his second goal of the game, this time manoeuvring a pass from Rod Storsbergen, late in the second period. „ Early in the third period Stephen Murree put a lone one behind Manver's goalie, Dino Medd, to give Oronb 3 goals. Too bad it was the last one, as Manvers finished the game with three more goals, giving them a win of 8-3. Allan f Hall- played an ex- Omemee PeeWees The I.O.O.F. Peewees played only one game this week. It was a close one but Omemee won 4-3. Orono's T.R. Pollitt opened opened the scoring in the first with an unassisted goal. Omemee came back with a goal by Mike English assisted by Steve Van Schubert. Omemee made it 2-1 when Mike edges out 1 by a score English scored again with assists to Steve Smith arid Jennifer Suggit. Trevor Bogdanow tied the- game for Orono late in.trie second second period assisted by Laurens Kaldeway. In the third Omemce's Jason Delfell scored assisted by' Steve Smith and again Orono tied it with a goal by .O.O.F. of 4 to 3 , T.R. Pollitt from Terry Brimes and Darrin Mercer, The score remained 3-3 until until (he last few seconds when Omemee's Steve Smith made it 4-3 for Omemee. Town approves plan amendment The general purpose committee committee of the Town gave their approval to a proposed plan amendment affecting the Courtice Urban Area plan. The amendment resulted from the completion of an Environmental Impact Study recommending certain sensitive sensitive areas be deleted from development. Saturday night Orono travelled to Oshawa to play Woodview Park for an exhibition exhibition game. The Orono team was short players yet played a very strong game of 3'A fifteen minute periods. It was a. fast game, although Orono lost. Orono waited to put their first goal on the board until 7:10 of the 2nd period, already down 3-0 to Oshawa. This goal went to Stephen Murree with assists to Jim Wood and Mike Cairns-. Oshawa came back with their 4th goal, before Keith' Vey scored to give Orono their 2nd goal, his pass coming from Stephen Murree and Jim Wood. Once again Oshawa came back in Orono's end - to beat goalie Ken Çameron for their 5-th goal. Drawing into 'the fourth period, Orono's' Jim Wood completed a pas,? from Mike 'Cairns rind Stephen Murree to end Orono's' scoring for* the game. Oshawa ,was suc- cessîuhin boosting their sc'ore by one more, giving them, a final win 6-3. An exceptional game was played by Blaine Bruton against Oshawa. which the developer stated did not exceed 70 feet at its highest point. ' Town planning staff stated that further information as to traffic and servicing was not. available at this time and staff recommended that the proposal be referred back to staff for further information.
