The Orono boys played against the Bowman- ville select novice team in their first game. The first period play was slightly scrambled with neither team able to produce a sustained attack. Late in the period Orono broke out when Dustin Reid scored assisted by Ryan Marsams and Jim Partner. Fifty-one seconds later with only 1:38 left in the period Scott Williams passed the puck to Dustin Reid to give Orono a 2-0 lead. Bowman ville scored the only goal of the second period. Early in the third period Dustin Reid picked up his third goal of the game unassisted. Jarret Prescott in goal for Orono kept Bowmanville off the scoreboard with help from Craig Nemis, Bradley Min- nis, Sean McKenzie, Jim Partner and Shane Jones on defence. The other forwards, Ryan Rbck, Scott Hall, Scott McAllister, Greg Hooper, Cameron Esler and Brent Gates all helped in the 3-1 victory. victory. The first period saw lots of end-to-end action with numerous chances only to be stopped cold by some excellent goaltending at both ends. The second period saw Orono come up with the only* goal of the period by Brent Hutton assisted by Stuart Irwin. Irwin. Madoc came tip with one more to make'it 4-2 but that was all they would get by goalie Jeff "gotcha" Martin who had the hot hand all weekend. Final score Orono 4, Madoc 2, with this win the boys put themselves in the running for the "A" championship championship round. Orono 3 - Bowmanville 1. The second game saw the Goodwin with 0:39 seconds left in the period. The second period again saw end-to-end action with super goaltending at both ends. Orono 4 - Keene 3 . On Sunday after a snowy drive back to Campbellford the Orono Club came up with just a super effort to defeat one of the heavy favourites from Keene. The first period saw themselves down 2-0 with 5 minutes gone in the game. The boys then seemed to dig down for a little extra and with 4:40 left in the period Brian Hill got the margin to 2-1 with assists going to Doug Bedford and Kevin Mum- ford. Then with 3:12 left Keene came right back to up the'count to 3-1. The second and third periods saw the local boys come up with probably probably one of their finest efforts efforts of the year as the whole team put everything they had into it, coming up with three goals while keeping Keene off the scoreboard as Jeff Martin 4, Keene 3. Orono 7 - Pickering Village 5. After one hours rest the local boys found themselves back on the ice against the powerful Pickering who had a three hour rest and had gotten gotten a bye into the final after their second game. The first period saw the local boys come up with the only goal of the period to go ahead 1-0 by Brian HE assisted by David Bailey. The second period saw the Pickering Pickering team turn on the power as they outscored the local boys 4-2 to go ahead 4-3 in the game as the local boys seemed seemed to wilt under the fast skating Pickering team. Scoring Scoring the Orono goals were David Bailey assisted by Doug Bedford and Brian Hill, then Stuart Irwin unassisted. The third period saw a complete turnaround for the local boys as they dug down and gave it everything they had to outscore the Pickering club 4-1 for a hard fought 7-5 victory. ' Game 3: Saturday, March 26th, Orono 4 - Valley East (Hânmer) 3 Orono came up with another thrilling come-back in the third period of this Championship game. After being down 3 to 1 at the end of the second period Orono tied the game up forcing another overtime period. Orono scored the winner at the 0:58 second mark of the overtime. Scoring for Orono were: 1. David LaFrance -unmisted. 2. Paul Henry - misted Jim Wood and Keith Vey. 3. Shawn Bailey - assisted Keith Vey and Paul Henry. 4. Jim Wood - misted Keith Vey and Shawn Bailey. Congratulations guys for a good tournament! I.O.O.F. PeeWees in win column in last three games The I.O.O.F. Peewêe's finished the season on a good note winning their last two games and the "B" Championship Championship in the annual Newcastle Peewee Tournament. Tournament. The tournament was played March 25 at Newcastle Arena. Orono's first game was played against BowmarivEe. They lost this game 3-2. Bowmanville's goals were scored by Tony Dyer misted by Brent Gibson, Jason Ryan from Greg Henley, and Brent Gibson mist going to Greg Henley. Orono's Laurens Kaldeway scared both goals assisted each time by Robbie Nixon and Brent Stapleton. Losing this game put Ofpno in the running for the PB" Championship. Orono's next gene was Mumford misting. Pickering scored one to close the gap to 6-5 only to see David Bailey put the game away misted by Brian Goodwin and Jeff Martin. This win saw the Matthews and HE Insurance win the "A" Championship with each boy taking home a medallion. Special mention, to Jeff Martin on winning the M.V. Goalie and to Stuart Irwin Irwin on winning the M.V.P. Both boys received a trophy for their efforts. Orono 3 - Bowmanville 3 On Monday, March 28th, 1983 the local boys played an Exhibition Game to close out the season against the Bowmanville Toros whom they had defeated on the weekend in the tournament 3-1. The first period was scoreless with both goalies coming up strong. Bowmanville opened .scoring in .the second period by J. Pithie - unassisted. With 0:40 féconds left in the period Kevin Mumford tied the game at 1-1 with mists going to David Bailey and •Brian HE. The third period saw Orono go ahead 2-1 on a goal by David Bailey misted by Brian Goodwin and Patrick Woods. Bowmanville then came back with two quick goals to go ahead 3-2 on goals by J. Woodlock and N. Dennis. With 1:43 left in the period David Bailey tied the game at 3-3 With mists going to Kevin Mumford end Brian HE. Final score Orono 3, Bowmanville 3.
