' 4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, March 30, 1983 ( SPORTS) Orono Tyke teams play last games of the season in Orono Hamilton Insurance Midgets host Bob Best Memorial tournie On Saturday, March 2<5th,- both Orono Tyke teams played one last game of the season. The result of this game gave Orono 1 a 2-1 vie-' tory over Orono 2. Orono 1 opened the scoring with an unassisted goal by Brian Good. With 1 second remaining remaining in the first period, Orono 2 tied the score with an unassisted goal from John Buttigeig. There was no change in the score throughout the second and third periods, although both teams tried very hard. It was in the overtime period that Orono 1 took the lead with an unassisted goal from Brandon Ovenden. They were able to hold on to the lead throughout the overtime period. When these two teams meet it shows just how matched they are with very close games. The hockey is gradually winding down for the Orono Tennant Fuels Atoms as they played exhibition games in Manvers, Millbrook and at home this past weekend. The Friday night game in Manvers, March 25th, marked marked the debut and probably the grand finale of Anthony Webb's career as a goalie. Although he didn't do too badly he's still much better at putting the puck in the net than keeping it out. The result was Manvers 5, Orono 2. Blaine Souch notched both of the Fueler's goals, the first unassisted and the second on a nice pass by Brent Osmond. t On Saturday night, March 26th, we hosted the Oshawa l/.N.H.L. Black Hawks trouncing them 12 to 2. The skeleton crew we did have put up a good fight but just ran out of steam because of all the double double shifting, they had to do. Anthony Webb had two goals for the Fuelers and assisted on our third goal scored by Brian Rodd. Jason Major, Jeff Hart wig and David Sheridan assisted on Anthony's goals. The day-long tournament was held in the Orono Arena under the sponsorship of the Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen Club. On Wednesday evening the Hamilton Insurance Midget club hosted the annual Bob Best Midget Tournament with the help of the Orono Athletic Association. ' All the teams were well matched and gave all they had in the games, showing the large crowd some great hockey. The committee of Dennis Mumford, George Vey, Bert Reid and Grey Vey had their hands full in every game picking picking the Most Valuable Player on each team. There were 8 medalions given out and Orono goalie £)ino Medd and ■ centreman Mike Hamel picked picked up the award for Oronoi At halftime Russ Major looked after the announcing as Charlie Peake - Orono'.s Esso dealer presented the Esso Medalion to three players from each of Orono's teams for the Most Valuable, Most Improved and Most Sportsmanlike during the year. Ron Best, formerly of Orono, was on hand during Bob Best Hamilton Insurance Midgets played great hockey on Wednesday night and came away with the "A" Championship. It was a good team effort after a poor, playoff series. Mârch 28 Orono 4 -Cobourg 4 Orono played two strong periods and then hung on as Cobourg dominated the third period to earn a tie in their final game of the year. THREE BEATS TO A BAR I begged off from this column column last week due to the fact everything is normal around home and likewise there are no problems in the hen house like last year when I was housing seven roosters and three hens. This year the compliment is one rooster and seven hens. There is a definite difference which likely likely I don't have to explain to anyone. Finally I have accomplished accomplished setting that digital watch or at' least have learned how it is done from nephew Ronnie. How simple it is when you know the* procedure but that procedure,did not come from the printed instructions. Up to this point I had been subtracting an hour and twenty minutes from the time piece to get the right time. Ronnie made it sound easy and easy it really is. Press buttons one and three to get the hour figure flashing. the tournament and presented the winning teams with their trophies and congratulated congratulated them on their fine effort. Orono's Midgets came away with the "A" Championship Championship and Bowmanville's Toro's won thé "B" Championship. Championship.
