Ontario. Single-celled plants, the ' algae, grew in Ontario waters almost 2,000 years ago. Four hundred and fifty million years ago, Ontario was a trçpical sea teeming with the activities ' of snails, clams, sponges, sea lilies, nautiloids and trilobites. A hundred million years later, fish were in ,the sea and, plants were growing on land. Then, relatively recently-beginning only one million years ago- massive glaciers inched over the area that had once been a tropical sea, leaving thick deposits of rock, sand and clay", with enclosed remains of mastodons, salt-water fish and fresh-whter molluscs. A record of this life has survived in the fossils of Ontario-remains of the plants and animals which lived in *■. these past ages and which are now' preserved in ' the sedimentary rocks. On Tuesday, Tuesday, July 28th, a R.O.M. museumobile brings thç fossils to Orono-a partial record of the past 2,000 years of life preserved in Ontario rocks.
