Protest sewage plant want public hearing ORONO, ONT. -983-5207 f A group of people living in the Port Darlington area of Bowmanville are to request a provincial environmental assessment assessment hearing for the proposed sewage treatment plant to be constructed in Bowmanville. The group feel it may be the only course to -follow to obtain satisfactory information as to the plant in their area. At the present time the Region of Durham public Works department is receiving receiving bids for the construction of the plant and these bids are to close on November 7th. The Port Darlington group met last week with the Public Works Department and spoke of their opposition to the project. Some two- years ago an environmental assessment ht, crind was held OV€T the construction of a sewage treatment plant in Bowman- ville but at the time the proposal was to construct the plant on lands owned by St: Mary's Cement. The proposal for this location fell through when St. Marys objected to' the sale of their land for the project. It was pointed out at the Regional Public Works department department that odors from such new plants rarely have the same impact as those constructed constructed some twenty years ago.
