By early 1980 the site preparation preparation work should be completed and the site should essentially be ready for station construction. To date, slightly more than 6.0 million cubhf metres of earth have been moved out of the lakeshofe area. The larger part of this material has been piled at the nprthwest corner of the site in a waste disposal pile. Approximately 1.4 million million cubic metres of earth along with 185,000 cubic metres of bedrock remain to, be excavated. Work is nearly completed on a permanent steel girder bridge over the CN tracks at Park Road. The contractor, ^rmbro ' Materials Materials and Construction Limited Limited of Brampton, began construction in April. Early in the year there was 1 a seven week spring shutdown shutdown because of wet site ■ conditions. As a result, the ' contractor's labour force has been glqwly increasing since this time and has reached a maximuip of approximately 185. Because scheduling changes changes include a revised completion completion date; a winter slowdown period is anticipated as the earthmoving contract finish* es. Construction will resume again, however, in the spring of 1980 when construction forces will begin work on installation of all the construction construction facilities required to build the main plant. These facilities include a sewage treatment plant and system, water supply systems, electrical electrical distribution systems, * project administration offices, offices, trade shops and warehousing warehousing facilities. Completion of these facilities facilities is scheduled for the end of 1980 in preparation for work on the permanent structures early in 1981. As currently scheduled, the Darlington project is expected expected to start producing electricity electricity in 1987. When fully operational in 1990 Darlington GS r Wijl have a capacity of 3500 megawatts. The Darlington GS Information Information Centre is located at the corner of Holt Road and the South Service Road, and is open on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and ' Wednesday and Thursday 1 from 1:?0 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Site tours, slide presentations, presentations, or information sessions are available outside of these hours but should be pre- , arranged iduring regular information, information, centre hours.
