The issuing of permits is also down in commercial and industrial areas. The cost value of all permits issued in the Town to date for 1979 now amounts to $2,029,350 which figure compares compares with $4,438,356 in 1978. Town of Newcastle Residential construction in residential zones of the Town of Newcastle have drastically dropped this year compared to that of 1978. In this category nine permits have been issued this year comparing comparing with 60 pemits in 1978. Residential development in the agricultural zones of the Town has strengthened this year with to date 23 permits being issued. This compares with 14 such permits in 1978. Students survey Durham Region for accessibilty study Four students, hired under a thirteen week Young Canada Works Programme, will be conducting an Accessibility Accessibility Study of the Durham Region. The programme is being sponsored by the March of Dimes under the supervision supervision of Tim Uuksulainen, Community Development Officer Officer for the Oshawa Region. Elizabeth Greaves, (Project Manager), Karen Stubbings, Susan Orr and Chris Greaves will be surveying buildings such as banks, stores, recreation recreation centres and theatres to obtain data for an Access Guide. This guide outlines facilities 'accessible to the handicapped. The bpildings will be surveyed to determine whether entrances and main facilities such as aisles, counters, washrooms, water fountains and telephones are accessible, partially accessible accessible or nomaccessihle to the handicapped.
