Installation of the sub-surface drainage is being done by Ron Robinson Ltd. of Oshawa. At the end of December , 250 people were working at the Darlington site, with all but 30 being on the contactors' payrolls. By next December, about 400 people are expected to be employed at Darlington. In addition to completing the site preparation work, a number of other activities are planned for 1979. Starting in mid-February, a permanent, steel-girder bridge will be built over the CN tracks at Park Road, by Armbro Materials and Construction Construction Ltd. of Brampton. Project offices, a sewage treatment facility, a steel warehouse and a concrete- mixing plant are also scheduled scheduled to be constructed on the site during 1979. The contracts contracts for these installations have not been awarded. Dominion Bridge Company Ltd. and Canadian Vickers Limited, of Montreal, are sharing the $35 million con tract for the four nuclear reactor vessels which will be delivered to the site by barge between 1981 and 1983. Each vessel will weigh 800 tons. Sixteen, 400-ton steam generators generators costing $38 million will be supplied by Babcock- Wilcox (Canada) Ltd. of Cambridge. The steam generators, generators, in which steam will be produced to drive the turbine generators to manufacture manufacture electricity, will be delivered between 1982 and 1985. This $4 billion nuclear project, located five kilometres kilometres southwest of Bow- manvillc, is scheduled to start producing electricity in 1985. Newton was born in Montreal, studied in Éngland and now lives in Enniskillen. His work is in the collections of the National Gallery, Ottawa, the National Film Board of Canada, the Art Bank, the Public Archives, Archives, the Robert McLaughlin McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa and many other public and private private collections. Laurine Sage, a recent winner in the East Central Ontario Art Association Annual Annual Juried Exhibition, will be represented by five sketches. sketches. Mrs. Sage was born in Kirkland Lake and lives in Oshawa. She will be included in the Women of the Region exhibition to be held at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, in April 1979. J. STUTT The Margot Samuel Gallery in Oshawa was a beehive of activity on Sunday with the opening of the Past and Present exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition and sale featured some forty drawings, water colours and photographs by seven artists portraying the Durham Region Region and its surroundings as it was and is. Many of the works were quickly sold, a cleàr indication of the acceptance of the exhibition and to the quality of work on display. Four of the artists are exhibiting with the Gallery for the first time. Laurel Campbell-Stark, who lives near Oshawa, was born and educated in Toronto where she graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1973. She has produced a calendar of Durham Region houses, and seven of the original drawings for this calendar are included in the exhibition. Linda James lives in Bow- manville and has contributed four pencil drawings of homes in Bowmanville. Mrs. James was born in Winnipeg and graduated from the University University of Toronto, Fine Arts, <1965. Bent Reinert, who was born in Denmark and now lives near Cavan, Ontario, has done seven ink and water colour drawings of rural bams and houses. Reinert has exhibited extensively in the Peterborough, Kingston and Cobourg areas. John Richmond was born in Toronto and lives near Claremont. Claremont. His drawings and paintings of buildings have been reproduced in prints by Abitibi Paper Co., Toronto Stock Exchange, General Foods Ltd., and his original works are in many private and public collection's in Canada, the United States, England arid France. Rich- * mond is currently teaching at the Ontario College of Art and was recently elected a member member of the Royal Canadian Academy. There are twelve original water colours by Richmond in Past and Present. Present. Bert Law was represented in the Gift Sale at Margot Samuel Gallery, and for the current exhibition, Law 'is showing five drawings. A retired high school teacher, Law, who lives -in Uxbridge, has exhibited in Kingston, Bowmanville, Port Perry and Markham.
