6-Orono "Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 3rd, 1976 ■' o.m.h.a:bantams On Friday, October 22, the O.M.H.A. V ..Ganawood Bantams opened their season in Port Hope and were defeated 7 to 2. Port Hope "got three goals in the first period. Martin Parry opened the scoring in the second on a pass from Terry Hedges and Joe Senew while Port Hope added another goal. Port Hope added threeemore in the third While Paul Reed blasted in an unassisted goal. On Monday, Oct; 25, the Bantams played their first home game in the Hampton Arena. Pickering was in for an exhibition game which ended up a 1 to 1 tie. • It was a good, fast game with the Orono 1 goal scord by Martin Parry from Paul Reed and Bob Myles. Dan Mitchell played well in goal both games. O.M.H.A. MIDGETS The Orono O.M.H.A. Midgets were defeated in their first game of the season Oct. 22 by Port Hope 4 - 2. The Orono goals 1 were scored by Ron Opoka, assisted by Marcel Charland and Charles "Quantrill. Gary Bridger played well in the net for Orono. O.M.H.A. BANTAMS On Wednesday, Oct. 27 the O.M.H.A. Bantams played a league game in Port Perry. Port got a goal in the first period but at 9:15 of the second Orono tied it up on a goal by Terry Hedges from Martin Perry and Joe Senew. Three minutes later Port Perry added another to go ahead but not for long as 30 seconds later Martin Parry scored from Rob Talsma and Paul Redick. The game remained tied until withj just one minute left Port Perry blasted one by Dan Mitchell to win the game 3 - 2. Preston Long and Ross Stutt played well for Orono. ORONO O.M.H.A. ATOMS October 16 - Orono 1, Pickering 6 October 23 - Orono 0, Ajax 3 (Exhibition) October 30 - Orono 1,' Port Perry 3 Nov. 1 - Orono 2, OPS Twp. 1 After a slow start Orono finally got on the right track last night defeating OPS. Twp. in a fast skating game played at Darlington Sports Centre. Don Stevens and Geoff Green played well in the nets. Goals were scored by Murray Dennis and Grey Vey - assists going to Randy Tennant. A good team effort. HARRIER MEET On Wednesday of last week the elementary schools of the Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education held a harrier meet (cross country running) near Gore's Landing on the shores of Rice Lake. Some 360 pupils from the three school areas were entered and competed. The Western area which includes Orono placed third. In the Junior girls division Jenny • Lewins of Kirby-Kendal school finished in seventh position out of a total of ninety competitors. Robin Munroe from the same school placed 25th. In the Junior boys division Steven Bob of Orono school was fifth while Bill Tate also from Orono placed twentieth. The Pines was represented in the Intermediate girls with Sharon Luckhart, 7th, Donna Mendonca, 11th, Cindy Rupert, 15th and Susan Housely 22nd out of the ninety competitors. In the Intermediate boys class Greg Martin of the Pines finished in sixth place. AT THE KAWARTHA On Thursday evening the closest to a win registered by Orono dirvers or horse was in the second event when Keith West drove his own horse, Worthy Rapido, to a second place finish. Gerald Robinson was third in the same event driving New Broom. Jack Williams place fourth in the fifth race with Harwil Shirley while in the sixth Cjlenn Tennant also picked up a fourth place finish with Orono Amateur Athletic Hockey Schedule AT THE Darlington Sports Centre All Orono Amateur Athletic Hockey has started and being held in the Darlington Sports Centre. On Staurday night there were two wins regoistered by Orono drivers. Gerald Robinson Robinson was 1 the winner in the second race driving Miss Dunraven While in the fifth Glenn Tennant drove Mini Valley to a win in 2.09.4. The horse is owned by Russell Mpyrill of Orono. In the same ra.ee the Max Moore horse, Silver Lad, was fourth with Gerald Robinson coming in in sixth place with Lillie Mac- Ann. Junior West placed second with Lisa Lomac in a race where the win went to Profile Killean in. 2.06.4. West was ^lso second jn the tenth event with Glenholme Joe. He drove F. D. Parson to a fourth place finish in the open event of the night. Of this amount the province is to pay $250,375 with the participating participating municipalities, Hal- dimand, Hamilton, Manvers, Cavan, Cobourg, Port Hope, Hope and the Town of Newcastle being levied an amount of $170,302.1)0. The municipal levy in 1976 amounted to $167,980 while in 1977 it is proposed at $170,302 an increase of $2,322, less than a two per cent rise. Adminstration costs have risen to $102,267. from $72,600 with the major portion of the increase being due to the' operation of Cold Spring camp which was acquired in 1976.
