Heather Sawyer pitched the game for Orono giving up only five walks. At bat Rim Irwin was , credited with a home run while Shelly , Richards banged out three runs. Beth Gatchell, Heather Sawyer and Shelley-Ann Robinson received two hits each with a single hit to. Rendra Kemp. On August 17t.h the Orono girls again went down to defeat this time at the hands of the Bowmanville No. 2 team. The final score 17-13. Anita Hannam and Heather Sawyer shared the pitching duties for Orono. Shelly Richards and Susan Stolk each received a single. Beth Gatchell was credited with a double and Tina Peeters drove out a home run. Jackie Oliver wins Players 200 It took Jackie Oliver one hour, 45 minutes and 57,592 seconds to win the Player's 200 on Sunday at Mosport, He attributed his win to his pit crew taking only one pit stop for a short period of 53 seconds. Oliver was 7.8 seconds ahead of Follmer who ended in second place. The winner averaged 111.393 miles per hours over the 200miles. Only three cars completed the full race over the 80 laps, Oliver with his Shadow, Follmer with a McLaren and Ickx's Porsche. To play final LOBB championship in Orono Park A doubler header Ladies' LOBB ball play down series was played in the Orono Park on Monday evening under the lights with a large attendance present. The new lights have opened the usefulness of the Orono diamond and tonight, Wednesday the fianl series will be played for the Championship. This final game will go at 8:30 with Midas Muffler facing the Harvey Partner,squad from Orono., On Monday evening the Bowmanville Bowmanville Rinettes took a decision from the Hutton Transport girls by a score of 19 -18. In the second game D'Angelos defeated the Dykstra Dillies by a wide margin of 31 to 10. The Bowmanville Rinettes and D'Angelos will now face one another the Consolation trophy for the league. Sometime in the near future the Men's LOBB ball playdown series will get underway and a number of the games will be played on the Orono Park diamond. Orono tennis club The Orono Tennis Club has made final arrangements for the holding of club championship championship tournaments including singles for men, women in both the senior and junior divisions as well as for men, ladies and mixed doubles. The championships are to be run-off during the latter part of August and the first part of September. Those wishing to enter the championships are asked to register at least one day prior to the preliminary dates set for the respective divisions. The men's division will open on Monday, August 30th, the ladies on Tuesday, August ,31st and the Juniors on Thursday, September 2nd. Entry lists will appear on the bulletin board at the tennis courts or registration may be made to Mr. Michael Carman, president of the club. In speaking with Mr. Carman Carman it is hoped to be able to run off the preliminaries the first w ee k but this will be dependent on the number^ taking part in the tournam-' ents. All members are encouraged encouraged to take part in the events over the next few weeks which should create considerable interest. Make sure your name is on the list early both for singles and doubles.
