Eric Moore pitched his second shutout of the year as he allowed only six hits while striking out seven. Steve West and Bill McCullough led the Eagles in hits with two each while single hits went to B. Alldred, E. Moore, J. Thompson, B. Robinson, P. Henderson and J. Wright. During the next few weeks the playoffs will take place with the finals to take place Augùst 31st at Pine Ridge School. The Orono. Junior Recreational Soccer club will determine to-night Wednesday if they are to adavnce to the final series for the league. The home club will meet Tyrone at the Orono Public School grounds tonight in the final game of their series. Both clubs played to a tie in the opening game with total goals to count. The Orono Senior Recreational club is now entered in the final series and will, play this Saturday in the final series commencing at 2:00 o'clock at the Pine Ridge School soccer field. The local club had eleiminated the Senior Hampton club and gained a bye into the finals. Two Kawartha wins Junior West during the past week posted two wins at the Kawartha raceway. The first win came on Tuesday with Chuckle Lind, a horse owned by Steve Allen. The second was on Thursday evening when he drove Lisa Lornac in its first race and to its first win. West also placed second on Saturday evening when driving Willoway Gay. On Tuesday evening Penny Van Echo, owned by Gerald Rainey finished in fifth palce in the opening race while Jack Williams took eighth driving Robins Baroness. Jack williams returned in the sixth race to finish in third place with Harwil Pete. The sixth was won by Hieland Dean in a time of 2.05.2. Thursday evening the Swadron and Slater horse, Lilli MacAnn was third while Gord Robinson of Newtonville was second with Jaco Chief. Doug Allen's horse, Glory A1 was second in the fifth and Derek Newman drove to a fourth placed finish in the seventh with Abbe Knight. At a special meeting of council last Wednesday evening evening council agreed to meet again regarding their actions towards the Newcastle and Bowmanville Arenas. This second meeting was held on Monday afternoon, August 16th which went into camera after a period of eighteen minutes. The last Wednesday meeting meeting was called as an emergent meeting to discuss the engineering engineering reports on the arenas in the area and one report which also now contends that the Newcastle Village arena is beyond repair. After a couple hours of discussion Mayor , Rickard outlined his proposal which was agreed upon by Council. Mayor Rickard asked that council again have the arenas fully evaluated for he felt both the Bowmanville and Newcastle Village arenas could be brought into service with repair work but that first a full report would be needed. He said he was not satisfied with the reports to date. In his suggestion he asked that council invite three engineering firms to make proposals before council for the full studies, outlining costs for the reports as well as proposals and specifications for repairs. He recommended that Totten, Sims and HUbicki as well as Leighton and Kidd be included in the three firms to make proposals. Counc. Lyall spoke iti support of the Mayor's recommendation recommendation stating that he did not want to rush into the matters before them without all the facts. He also said he would like to have thé matter, of the Orono arena title cleared but was not saying he was against anything being done in connection with thç Orono arena building. Counc. Allin asked if it was the intent of council to take the same route they already had taken ând call for another report on the buildings.
