Pemberton and Eagles E. Moore staged a strong pitching battle for five innings before Port Hope got two runs in both the sixth and seventh inning to clinch their victory. Mike Carman picked up his first victory of the season allowing only four hits in pitching the shutout. The Eagles, who have won four out of their first seven games, Were in no trouble during the game as they out hit Bowmanville eleven to four. Doug Rickard had three hits for the Eagles while P. LONG FASHION PEEWEE GIRLS CHALKING UP VICTORIES The Long Fashion PeeWee girls in the softball league have come up with three consecutive wins with two of the wins being much in their .favour. On June 9th they defeated the Bowmanville 2 team 11-0 and on June 10th played the Bowmanville 3 team again winning by a score of 14-1. In a recent game with Hampton the local notched their third consecutive victory by a score of 5-3. In all cases Caroline Opoka was the winning pitcher turning in some strong games from the Orono mound. LOBB Ball a hit Adult LOBB ball has become a real hit . in the Town of Newcastle and especially so in the Orono area. According to Mr. Joe Caruana, Recreation Department, there are a total twenty-two teams registered with the Department, fourteen mens and eight ladies. Of the total 22 teams 10 come from the Orono area with six men's teams and four ladies teams. In speaking to some of the players it is found they really enjoy the sport and the outing. The only problem at the present time is time allotment at thé various diamonds. To help alleniate the Orono problem a new diamond is being completed at the Orono Fair Grounds. Mr. Caruana points out that diamonds will become more available following the completion of some minor ball around the middle of July. Big race at Mosport this week-end When the Labatt's Blue 5000 Weekend returns to Mosport Park on June 18, 19, 20 among the drivers competing for the $60,000 prize money will be England's Jackie Oliver in a Shadow. Both Oliver and the Shadow are all well known to Mosport fans. Oliver won the Labatt's Blue Can-Am at Mosport in a Shadow in 1974, the first win on the road to capturing the Can-Am Championship that year. He also shared the winner's circle at Mosport in 1973, when his Formula One . Shadow^ placed third in the controversial Grand Prix of Canada, the race that saw the late Peter Revson take first place from Emerson Fittipaldi. Vern Schuppun, the 1976 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year will also be among the entries in the big race for the week-end. He raced to 18th position in the, recently held Indy 500. The Formula 5000 event is the premiere racé of the Labatt's weekend, which will aslo see races in the Bulova Championship series for 2.5 litre sedans and Formula 100's, as Well as a Gold Cup Super Vee race and an event in the new VW Scirocco series. Mayor Jim Potticary, who is on record in support of harbor growth in the Second Marsh, said today the city needs more time to make a "solid case" for the hearing. "The staff is now tied up with other OMB hearings - something like six this month", month", the mayor said. "A tremendous ambunt of staff time is taken up working on OMB cases," he added. In 1967, Oshawa city council announced its intention to transfer the marsh to harbor commission for the purpose of expanding the harbor facilities. facilities.
