Kendal News On Good Friday the temperature temperature reached 77 degrees Fahrenheit, an all time high. It beat' the old record high of 76 degrees for.that date set eighty years ago. The beautiful Dresden plate ( guilt is. on display in the Window of Mr. J. Bajorek's store. Other prizes are a fine table lamp and a pretty afghan. Tickets may be purchased from the W.I. members. Sorry to report that Mrs, Ron Frank is in Western Hospital, Toronto for surgery: to her ankle. She is in the South Wing, room 5, Ward 2. We wish her a speedy recovery. Kendal United Church Women Women were invited by Mrs. G. Montgomery to the manse in Newtonville for the meeting on April 7th, There were nine ■members and three guests present. : Miss C. Stewart chaired the meeting in the absence of our president. Mrs. G. Cathcart told the story of Jennie Trelfall a crippled, orphan, girl who wrote "Hosanna, loud hosanna,the little children children sang". We sang this as our opening hymn. Mrs. A. Low chose as the scripture reading Matthew 6 v 25 - 34. Then she read an article entitled "The healing power of compassion". Miss Stewart read a poem "The praying hands". The minutes were read. An itme arising out of the minutes was that the World's Day of Prayer service at Kendal had been cancelled due to icy hills and fog. Moved by Mrs. G. Cathcart seconded seconded by Mrs. H. Foster that we give $10.00 from our funds to the causes sponsored by the 'World Day of Prayer. Carried. Carried. Moved and seconded that all bills in connection with the wedding dinner be paid. Mrs. R, Elliott gave the financial report. Mrs. T. Stevens gave a summary of the message brought to our annual meeting meeting in Harmony U.C. by Mrs. Floyd Hewlett in the morning, while Miss Stewart told of Mr. F. Hewlett's pictures on the work they have carried on in Japan during the last twenty two years. Of great interest was their classes with groups of young farmers. They led Bible Study groups and Mrs. Hewlett gave leadership in music and cooking as well. Kendal United Church Women Women are to hold a special Thank Offering Service on Sunday morning May 2 with Mrs. Alice Sheffield as the guest speaker. Invitations are to be sent out to the neighbouring churches and also to all the ladies of the Kendal Community. A delicious lunch was provided by Mrs. Jack Staple- ton A vote of appreciation was given to Mrs. Montgomery. Montgomery. Orono Weekly Times, April 21, 1976 - 3 Ontario Provincial Police at Newcastle were kept busy for almost three hours Friday morning in the aftermath of a seven-car collision on Highway Highway 401 that resulted in an estimated $7,000 in damages to the vehicles involved and injuries to nine persons. One of the injured, Mary Coupland, 46, of Cambridge, Ont., was admitted to Bowmanville Bowmanville Memorial Hospital where she was reported to be in satisfactory condition by hospital officials.
