Dean Roberge, the man who called police to report a robbery in progress at the Gagnon Sports store 12 years ago, also testified he was shocked to see his friend, Roger Pardy, slumped behind a counter with a fatal gunshot wound. "I saw Roger lying on the floor,"'Mr. Roberge said. "It looked like he'd been shot in the head." Mr. Pardy was one of the men who died that day in what would become one of Durham Region's most notorious crimes. Ronald Woodcock is currently currently standing trial in Superior Superior Court on two charges of first-degree murder in connection connection with those deaths; he also faces four counts of attempted murder. Mr. Woodcock originally went to trial on the . charges in 1998. The Ontario Court of Appeal ordered a new trial on the charges. The Crown contends Mr. Woodcock was one of two masked men who burst into the Simcoe Street South shop on Sept. 14, 1994, and ordered patrons and staff to lie on the floor. One of The'men, armed with a .22 calibre gun, fired several shots when the men were slow to comply. Mr. Pardy died of his wounds and three others were shot. The bandits made off with several handguns. The Crown alleges Mr. • Woodcock and an accomplice accomplice abducted Mr. Thomas earlier in the' day and shot him four times in the head before taking off with his car. His body was found in January January 1995 near the Pickering nuclear plant. Mr. Roberge said he was pulling into the parking lot at Gagnon Sports about 5 p.m. when he saw two masked-men get out of a car and head toward the shop. When a man . armed with a gun looked his way, Mr. Roberge ducked down and backed his car out of the lot, 1 the jury heard. He drove to a house nearby and called 911 before returning returning to the shop to notice the suspect's car gone.
