The long-hitting duo carded a 69 to tic for first place and then proceeded to defeat Charles Crawford and Joshua Dean on the first hole of a playoff, when Lee chipped in for birdie from the fringe. The duo receives a five-year exemption into the Golf Association of Ontario's Better Ball Championship. Championship. Raise the roof golf Bracl Mcllroy finishes seventh overall with rounds of 74,75 BY BRIAN McNAIR Staff Writer DURHAM - Dustin Wetherup couldn't couldn't have picked a better time to birdie a hole. Playing at the Ontario high school golf championships in Ingersoll last week, Wetherup closed put his second and final round with a birdie, giving him the individual crown by one stroke and McLaughlin Collegiate the team championship championship by a pair. Wetherup, an 18-year-old OAC student student who recently accepted a golf scholarship scholarship to the University of Hartford, was two shots off the lead after firing a two- over-par 74 Thursday, but claimed the provincial title with a one-under 71 Friday. Friday. He was joined by cousin Derek Wetherup (84-75), Connor Bailey (82- 78) and Ryan Blackwood (81-82) on McLaughlin's gold medal team. "I was really hopeful that Dustin would win - it's a great way to end his high school days," said McLaughlin coach Glenn Ross. "As a team, I knew we'd be competitive, but I thought we'd have to shoot more rounds in the 70s on Thursday... The guys dug in Friday and did well." Although not an official Ontario Federation Federation of Schools Athletic Association event, it attracted 128 of the best male high school golfers in the province. Ross says golf may well be part of OFSAA next year. Austin's Will Mitchell, who edged Wetherup for the LOSSA title, Port Perry's Tyler Martin and a team from Bowmanville High School also took part in the provincial championships, finishing finishing in the top half. BHS team members included Brad Mcllroy, Sean Lefort, Darryl Spencer and Brandon McDaniel. Mcllroy tied for seventh overall with scores of 74,75. In girls' golf, Sinclair's Rachel Spurs finished 25th at a one-day provincial championship in Newmarket Thursday. Competing in the low handicap division on a par-71 course, Spurs carded a 97. In the open division for girls with a 20+ handicap, Port Perry's Acldi McLaren finished third with a score of 71 on a par- 58 course. Telma, I am thinking of setting up a home gym. What do you advise? A. To improve fitness, you need to do minimum 20 minutes cardio, three times per week, with a five minute warm up and cool down. The pace you should set is fast enough to get your heart rate up and be able to talk at the same time. Swimming, biking, walking or skipping, totally your choice. You don't need to buy a bike or a treadmill. But if you are trying to decide between the two, I discourage you for the treadmill because of the amount of knee and back injuries I have seen from it. A recumbent bike, put right in front of your TV, will be something you will use, and it is easy on the joints. Whatever your choice, just do it as they say. Cardio will truly add years to your life and life to your years. If you need help starting up a program, see your Physiotherapist. Grant Physiotherapy 214 King St., E. Bowmanville !"
