On Thursday the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board approved review for possible closure two Clar- ington schools, along with three others in the Northumberland and Peterborough Peterborough areas. The board also appointed trustees to the school review committees, committees, which include school council representatives, school staff and community community members. "There will be opportunity for input from parents and other members of the school community," says board vice-chairman Angela Lloyd. The board appointed trustee Diane Lloyd to the Maple Grove committee and Trustee Don Matthews to the Lord Elgin committee. A representative of the committee will later present its findings to the board. The board will make its final decision decision in March about what schools to close. Justice looks to sniff out crime DURHAM - Durham Regional Police Police have 'Justice' on their side. Justice, a 55-pound Belgian Mali- nois, is the latest four-legged crime- fighting weapon to take a bite out of crime as part of the force's K-9 Unit. Justice and partner Constable Jason Cockburn started work Tuesday as the newest members of the unit, assigned to Oshawa 17 Division's B Platoon. The two-year-old scent-tracking dog just completed 24 weeks of train ing and is capable of jumping over of a 10-foot high barrier from a sitting position. The Malinois, named after the city, is related to the Belgian Sheepdog and considered the second-fastest dog after a greyhound. "He has tremendous athletic ability and is very quick. He is also exceptionally exceptionally friendly, understands commands commands well and is very obedient," says Const. Cockburn.
