Josh Purdy, 16, a Grade 10 student at Bowmanville High School, was honoured honoured recently at a ceremony ceremony at the CN Tower in Toronto, receiving congratulations congratulations from Canadian ski legend Ken Read and John Hunkin, CIBC chairman and chief executive officer. The scholarship is a partnership between CIBC, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Sisters and YMCA Canada. Josh is a little brother with Big Brothers and Sisters Sisters of Clarington. The scholarship awards students up to $4,000 per year in university or col lege tuition for up to four years. While still in high school, students get up to $2,000 per summer, increasing to $4,000 during college or university. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides mentor support that continues for the duration duration of the scholarship. The scholarship program program is open to Grade 10 students enrolled in a Big Brothers Big Sisters or YMCA Canada mentoring program, sporting a minimum minimum 60 per cent average in the application year. To maintain eligibility, students must finish high school and receive a diploma diploma with a minimum average average of 60 per cent, be accepted accepted into a recognized program at an approved post-secondary institution, and continue to be enrolled in a Big Brothers Big Sisters Sisters or YMCA Canada mentor program.
