This past weekend was the last chance for rookies hoping to make an impression on head coach Brad MacArthur and the rest of his staff during during five exhibition games over a two-day period. "We gave guys who are on the bubble (of making the team) a chance to prove themselves," said MacArthur of the weekend buffet of games. In particular, the second year bench boss was looking for players who were going to have "a presence and earn a spot" as well as those who had an element element of toughness to their game. "It's easier for me to judge if they can play Jr. B lacrosse or not if they're not afraid to finish their checks." At the Darlington Sports Centre on Friday night, Coady Derks led the offence offence with three goals and two assists while Ryan McMichael added two goals and three assists in a 10-4 win over the expansion Markham Thunder. Shane Sargeant added a pair of goals with one each to Ryan Preston, Adam Death and J.H. MacDonald. On Saturday, during a tournament in Barrie, the Green Gaels posted a 2-1-1 record in a four-game round robin with Barrie and Oakville. The exhibition games have added to, a training camp that MacArthur described as "phenomenal" to this point. 'To play some exhibition games and be able to evaluate evaluate is great.
