James began his career as a chemist chemist for DIL, Montreal and was transferred to their nuclear division in 1945 at the University University of Montreal and in 1946 to Chalk River, Ontario where the division was taken over by NRC in 1947 and in 1951 became Atomic Energy Energy of Canada. He remained there until 1976 when we was seconded to the Canadian Embassy Embassy in Tokyo, Japan for 3 1/2 years. While ! with AECL he travelled extensively to the USA, England, France, Switzerland, Russia, Greece, India, Taiwan and Korea. He retired , from his Tokyo posting in 1980 and then -spent the last 16 years in Oshawa.
