The Durham College golf coach has to pick five players from his 10-man roster to compete in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Association golf championship starting today in North Bay. His problems will be slightly different - but still exist - when Durham hosts the Canadian college championships at Lakeridge Links G.C. Oct. 9-12. As host school, Durham will be allowed to field a pair of five-man teams for the national championships. championships. Still, Duggan believes he has a chance to win a provincial or national national title, or both, and must settle on his top-five in order to maximize maximize the school's chances. "It's been a difficult choice," says Duggan, who still hadn't finalized finalized his team for the Ontario championships as of Monday. "There are 10 guys on the team and seven of them are up for the five spots. That's how difficult it's been. "I'm basically going on hunches and how they've played in the last tournament." Three players likely guaranteed a spot on Durham's team in North Bay, based on their play thus far this season, are captain Joel Michaud of Ottawa, Kyle Welsh of Courtice and British Columbia's Justin Mayer. The strength of Durham golf has been reflected in the team's performance performance during tournaments earlier this fall. Durham's two teams finished finished second and fourth at Gcor- | gian in Barrie, third and fifth at Durham's own event and fourth and fifth in Windsor. "I don't want to classify them as 'A' and 'B' teams," says Duggan. "Both teams arc equal in my eyes, they're so close." Other members of Durham's team arc Andrew Reid, Tyler McEachcrn, Whitby's Josh Melny- chuk and Brad Kent, Kevin Craw- ; ford and Luke McEachnic of Ajax and Colin McClure. Durham is trying to win its first ! OCAA title since 1996. The Cana- ; dian championships arc just in < their second year. Camosun of B.C. ) won last year's inaugural event.
