THE CANADIAN STATESMAN, APRIL 18,2001 PAGE B9 Durham College basketball teams get shuffled BY CHRIS FASCIANO Special la This Week OSHAWA - Durham College basketball teams are on the move and will be getting "the best of both worlds" as a result, says Ken Babcock, the school's athletic director. The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association has undergone some conference re-alignment affecting both the Durham's men's and women's basketball teams. Durham's men's team will move to the fast-paced East region after six years in the Central. They will now be in a division division with Algonquin, Loyalist, Sir Sanford Fleming, Fleming, St. Lawrence and Georgian colleges. (This move sees Durham leave a division with traditional traditional rivals Seneca and Humber. But under the terms of Durham's divisional move, the Lords will still schedule a homc-and-home series with some of their old rivals. rivals. '.'We are going to play some new teams," said Babcock. Babcock. "We are looking forward forward to it." The women will also see a change with the addition of four new teams to the league and the loss of St. Lawrence College. The new teams are Algo- nta University College, which was just accepted to the OCAA, along with Algonquin, Algonquin, Loyalist and St. Clair colleges. This will make the OCAA women's basketball league a 13-team, two-division two-division format. Durham will now be in a division with Algonquin, Loyalist, Seneca, George Brown, Georgian and Humber. Humber. Craig Andrews, head coach of the Durham women's basketball team, feels the addition of four new teams is a good sign for the league. "It's good to have four new teams," said Andrews. He added that having the east and west format will help teams with smaller budgets deal with the demanding demanding commuting costs. But Andrews doesn't like that the Lords won't get to play some of the teams as much as before, although, he added they would probably probably make that up in tournament tournament play.
